Greg and team, as one of the prime sites for both travel and reselling tricks and tips, can you please publish something on the ethics of abusing this public health crisis to hoard and price up material from hand sanitizers to masks and kleenex? I think it’s a responsibility we should take as part of this community to wake up others who may be delusional with “I’m fixing market inefficiency” bs. Same applies for the ethics of using the crisis to do mileage runs and vacations spreading germs to communities that may not have it as widespread right now like the Caribbean tiny islands.
Wrong site

I think most people understand that this sort of crisis isn’t the time to abuse reselling. For people that don’t understand that I don’t think me saying something will make much difference
I was just commenting to a friend about the flood of emails! The only useful one thus far, to me, is Doordash commenting on how they will set up a contact-less system.
On a different note, I’m still paying back a (since-refinanced) student loan. Deafening silence from Earnest thus far. I don’t expect or need a handout, but I’m quite certain they have no “interest” in reaching out to anyone right now to offer “help.” Find it humorous.
Coke and Marlboro just sent me e-mails about being concerned about my health because coronavirus
Mother of irony
Probably the one time they are less lethal (or are they?) than the subject of discussion.
Maybe they can make a mashup cocktail or something
End-of-the-world problems…
The thing I am most mad about is the fact my company works in healthcare yet we haven’t been sent out an email to any employees..
Yeah mine’s been silent since Wednesday. Outpatient facilities with sick people. No new protocols or processes. Hoping something comes in tomorrow that drastically changes our workflow 😕
The funny thing is I actually read the first few emails hoping that since they care so much about my health and safety they might be offering me 0% APR in these “difficult times”.
I read the one from my cable company, hoping they were going to up our download speeds 🙂
My “favorite” one was from raise. They just talked about their employees working from home. Didn’t say anything about how this actually affects the customers…who receive gift cards from people around the country who might actually have it.
My favorite was from Barnes & Noble. It was super short and basically said we know we are living in turbulent times and our employees are your neighbors.
that’s how my buddy’s uncle died
The guy who was banned by Jetblue should receive worse punishment than that.
Criminal charges are a must for this type of situation.
I think United was the first email I received and it seems each subsequent one was copy-and-pasted but with that company’s info.
I feel the same way about those emails. Every. Single. Company I have done business with in the past 10+ years it seems has sent me the same email about caring about my health. Crazy.
I suppose the craziness thing out of all this is that companies, and people, are acting like good hygiene such as washing hands is a new thing.
The frontline employees at those companies care about following those extra cleaning steps as much as you care about these emails.
Most of these e-mails are boilerplate and say the same thing, i.e. they say nothing.
The biggest insult to us is that many of these companies waited several days after the WHO announcement to send these vaguely worded messages that don’t say anything remotely concrete or informative. It’s almost like they have no clue what to do and are just following the crowd like mindless sheep.
Kinda smart marketing at first. But now it’s instant trash.
I’ve gotten emails from a sun/glasses place I patronize online, assuring me that even since there’s no reason to (!), they’re going to swab down with wipes, every pair of glasses they send out.
I’m curious how they propose to do that, since the same email said they’re closing all their offices and making everyone work from home.
My sister lives in a county with zero, that’s right zero, current reported cases.
They’ve closed all schools, and have gone takeout/delivery only on multiple restaurants.
She went to her SuperWalmart last night, and couldn’t find a single package of beef. Stores have sold out of potatoes, milk (cue my sister: “This stuff goes bad, you know”); and she actually was running low on Lysol wipes, so has been running in circles for multiple days to multiple stores looking for any. I have Amazon Prime, so looked online to help her – earliest date that any vendor would quote me to send any, was March 24.
I also received one from a bank – I swear this is true, though I can’t remember which one, as I’ve been swamped with conservatively 200 emails from various companies – that when you read between the lines, basically invited people to call them on the phone as a crisis hotline center; ‘cuz they didn’t even come close to saying “call us [about anything banking-related]”. They basically said “about anything”. I LOLed.
If you’re in the know…you realize how harmful sunglasses are to your health…unless you are climbing a mountain at very high altitude…or other super high intensity….don’t need. Many foods/drugs make us photosensitive…
