- Did Hertz Remove Yet Another Feature of Gold Plus Rewards With No Advance Notice or Warning? by The Gate. I’m guessing the number of people redeeming for these discounts greatly increased after the other devaluation.
- TBT: The Decline Of FlyerTalk by Travel is Free.
- T-Mobile’s New 5GB & 15GB International Data Passes by One Mile At A Time. Usually I’ll just buy a local sim, but sometimes it’s just way easier to pay a little bit more and go for an option like this.
- Microsoft Flight Simulator – E3 2019 – Announce Trailer

Here are some of the most popular posts from past few days:
OMFG I quit Flyeralk years ago. So many whiners! “Oh, I have Platinum Gold One Star and they let a Platinum Silver Two Star board before me, and I didn’t get a second PDB (Pre-departure beverage).”
I got tired of telling them that the plane doesn’t take off until the last person boards, anyway.
The Hertz cancellation policy in that article is scary. Unfortunately, I booked a rental for Christmas last week and misread the policy. Now I hope I don’t have to cancel.
FT used to be fun. For a few years I was a daily visitor, but there is no CC now. So I go there maybe once a month when a google search directs me there. But there is another reason for its decline: the good deals are mostly gone and the airlines removed most of “loopholes for cheapskates”. In short, RIP FT.
“there is no CC now”
What’s that? ‘CC’ means ‘credit card’ around here, but you seem to be talking about something else, so not the best choice of shorthand…
Thank you Will for linking to “The Decline Of FlyerTalk by Travel is Free”. Among the comments on that blog, I finally found the solution for infinite scroll, that I was looking for. FlyerTalk is finally useful to me again. 🙂
For everybody else:
Just go to FlyerTalk site preferences, find “Thread Display Options”. There, choose the way you want to see the threads. Including turning on/off the infinite scroll.
Here is direct link:

Thanks so much for the link to DISABLE infinite scroll.
I had thought it was me (there’s someone in my head but it’s not me)
When a company buys up other companies and runs them into the ground… it’s not a coincidence. Either they’re trying to stifle competition, or they’re just vultures. Either way, there’s a method to their madness.
I mean stock price says different? Like unless you drive those users to your site or actually pick apart the company profitably then it’s juat dumb
Enjoy DOC and make connections before they too go the direction of FT. It’s brewing folks. Built it to sell it business model.
Look at FT topics and how it got smeared with off-topic CATs over the years. Now look up at this post and see non-DOC related articles.
Any guess? That’s right flights, car rentals and mobile. In other words reaching for the travel audience vs focusing on the core of DOC.
FT is/was great as a jump start hub for bloggers to really help the community. Now it’s a shark tank to pouch off them.
I remember in the early years when it was great to hit a FT conference to meet up with others to discuss travel related topics on business trips. Now its credit cards this and earning points that. Noticed how BoradingArea contains the same heavy contributors from days past of FT.
Sadly I also see BA being sold off again as the community gets used up, people veer off topic and revenue and greed starts to overtake purpose. One site to rule them all endgame.
I certainly hope your insinuations are wrong here.
Will has a high-paying job and does a lot of travel himself. The occasional posts on travel-related savings are relevant because so many credit cards’ points are designed for travel.
wtf are you talking about. Recaps are for things we find interesting
Speaking of infinite scroll in Flyertalk, I believe the comments here on DOC are also infinite scroll which makes it really hard to get to the most recent comments on highly commented posts. It would be nice of there was some sort of page breakdown or something making it easy to go to the last page of comments. I still love this site. This might make it a bit more user friendly.
Click to sort comments by “newest.”
Thanks for that info.
You can click ‘recent’ to sort by most recent comments.
Good article by Drew on Travel is Free! It shows that view readers really know who the owners are behind the websites and their true commercial intentions!
For example: “In contrast, here are the stats to two other leading websites at the time – One Mile At A Time, which is still independently owned, and The Points Guy, which has similarly been bought by corporations (first bought by BankRates which was later acquired by RedVentures).”
