Discover merged with Capital One last year, and recently the bank started transitioning some Capital One cards over to the Discover network (instead of Mastercard).
Discover sent out an email that their cards will be switching over to the Capital One website and app on July 27, 2026.
- No action is required at this time – eventually you’ll likely have to add your Discover card in your Capital One login or create a new Capital One login.
- They also added a benefit on the Discover card to get 5% back on travel booked in the Capital One Travel portal.
- There’s some mention of points transfers, but no concrete info on whether Discover points will become transferrable. My guess is there won’t be any points sharing initially, and they might not yet have figured out themselves whether they’ll allow Discover points to become Capital One transferrable-points. It’s a merger process and will take time for this all to become one cohesive ecosystem.
We are writing to inform you of upcoming changes to your Discover it Miles Card account. Starting on July 27, 2026, you will manage your Discover it Miles Card using the Capital One app and/or the Capital One website. You will continue to earn the same rewards, and the same no annual fee feature that you love. In addition to the cash back rewards you love, you can also earn more rewards with access to Offers, Travel and Entertainment once your account moves to Capital One. There’s nothing to do right now. Keep using your card as you do. We’ll reach out when it’s time to service your account with Capital One.
How do I earn my rewards on purchases made on Capital One Travel? You will earn 5% cash back on purchases (hotels, vacation rentals and rental cars only) made on Capital One Travel. Earnings will apply to net purchases (purchases minus any credits or returns) only. Purchases made outside of Capital One Travel, such as hotel incidentals, upgrades or other expenses, will not earn 5% cash back, but will receive the standard purchase earn rate.
Is my account eligible to transfer rewards? Your account may be eligible to transfer rewards. Please be aware that transfers are only permitted between certain Capital One rewards accounts. Not all rewards products are eligible for transfer.
Apparently, long term, the plan is to have all Discover products under the Capital One website and app, and to have some or all Capital One cards run on the Discover payment network (instead of Visa/MC).
