Recap: Kroger 3x Fuel, New Mastercard Useless Benefits & More

  • I Got Married! by OMaaT. Congratulations Lucky and Ford! (also I shouldn’t have to say this, but I’ll say it anyway. If you don’t have anything nice to say in the comments, don’t say anything at all).
  • Making Vacation A Breeze With New Guarantees by Mastercard. Both seem basically worthless considering the best rate guarantee just refunds you the difference and it seems the hotel stay guarantee just helps you rebook something (but doesn’t refund you). Might be useful if you could book direct, but of course that isn’t the case and you need to use the Mastercard booking platform.

It’s interesting that DoC said the same thing about being respectful and polite about the two offers from “America’s Christian Credit Union”, but if you look at the comments, there are so many people irrationally bashing Christians and Christianity.

Let’s see how many people say anything negative about Ben and Ford’s wedding. I bet that there will be few to none (not that I in anyway hope any person would bash them, as they should not).

It’s strange when Christians (especially conservative Christians) many times say they feel under seige in America and yet so many people scoff and disagree.

If you look at the comments of any travel blog on boardingarea or TPG or even here on DoC you’ll see so many people happily attacking and defaming Christians and Christianity. Yet almost no one attacking or slandering LGBT people.

The even more interesting thing is that in all these comments I’ve read over the years on these blogs, I cannot remember a time that someone has accused these commenters of hate speech for deliberating attacking Christians and Christianity even though some things are really nasty.

Just look at the two posts on “America’s Christian Credit Union” on DoC – it’s a post about bank account bonuses and credit card bonuses and yet somehow people are able to tangent and talk about how Christians are deluded, hateful, anti-gay, and committing tax fraud just for being a restrictive credit union.

You can see the health and robustness of an idea or value or religion by how much people are willing to dialogue with others who have completely different ideas and values and NOT accuse them of hate speech.

I don’t understand the point of your lengthy post, UB Ben.

@Charlie

Sorry my post was a bit rambling. I had 2 main points. My first point was to say that there is severe inequality in how Christians and Christianity is treated as opposed to say the LGBT movement. People feel free to attack and stereotype and slander Christians and Christianity at will with no backlash.

This is definitely not true of the LGBT movement – any disagreement of any kind will get you labeled as a bigot and they will try to get you fired from your job.

My second point is that Christianity shows its internal strength and consistency because it can handle criticism, debate, and open dialogue, especially with people who disagree, many times vehemently disagree. The opposite is true of many movements today that espouse tolerance but cannot tolerate any disagreement with their views – otherwise they will call it hate speech and try to get you banned.

As evidence of Christianities robustness just look at how Christians responded to the Roman empire for almost 300 years as a minority religion and then how Christians (especially Protestants) have responded and adapted to the criticisms brought up in the Enlightenment when it was the majority religion in the West.

You choose to be Christian, you don’t choose to be LGBT. The fact that you can’t tell the difference is more than telling. That and Christians have been forcing their agenda on the general populace for years, it’s hilarious that this is your response when there is finally some push back to that.

People attack all religions, this is not the same as attacking race or LGBT.

@vipul
Why is attacking religions (like Christianity) not the same as attacking LGBT (I do not include race in this discussion)? Why is it ok to say angry, untrue, stereotypical, and offensive things to and about Christians but not LGBT?

In fact why is it if someone says that they want all married couples to be afforded the exact same legal privileges and protections, but to only define marriage as between one man and one woman, they will immediately be labeled a bigot and gay hater?

No one can force you to love anything. If you hate gays you have a right to hate gays. You just cannot discriminate based on laws. Your first amendment right is protected to call gays names. Just as people have a right to call Christians names.

Because sexual orientation is “who you are”, and, something you can’t change regardless of how hard you try (well in most cases). Religion is something which is fairly easy to change and in fact, you can give up practicing religion altogether if you wish. So in 1 case, you are attacking someone for who they are, while in the other case, you are attacking them for their life choices. I am not saying that attacking either is accepting, just pointing out the difference. Further, I believe in any society, attacking a minority should be done much more carefully than attacking the majority.

Attacking someone for being gay is like attacking someone for being short/tall/thin/fat.
Attacking someone for following a religion is like attacking them for the clothes they are wearing.

P.S.: Of course, attacking anyone for any reason is wrong. You just need to point out how ridiculous their clothes look. (Which is to mean it’s better to attack religion instead of the person following it and this is a distinction which can’t be made when you attack someone for being gay).

P.P.S.: I believe that only religious extremists attack one or a group of religions (as opposed to ALL religions).

P.P.P.S.: I am NOT talking about any particular religion here.
