I don’t understand fuel surcharge: why don’t businesses just raise their prices accordingly?
They want to wait before making a permanent price increase since gas is so volatile. The spike in gas prices was related to a specific geopolitical event and the resolution (or lack of) will determine whether/how much a permanent increase is going to happen.
They also like to wait a while after gas prices go back down to remove their fuel surcharges 😆 I know airlines hedge fuel prices so that complicates it, but Uber has dynamic pricing to begin with. Seems like opportunism. At least they’re claiming all the money goes to their drivers.
Yea, that’s why after oil hit $150/barrel, we got fuel surcharges. And when they dropped down to $50, they went away… oh wait — they didn’t.
Uber anyways shows the total cost of a trip, so I guess it doesn’t matter.
