- United Airlines employees shocked: Bonuses replaced with lottery by Chicago Business Journal. I assume the executives will also be moving to a lottery based bonus scheme as well? Or maybe staff can pick numbers out of a hat to determine who will go above and beyond for customers at the start of each day. If you want to reduce costs then be honest about it, your staff aren’t stupid and treating them as such is an insult.
The WSJ article needs subscription 🙁
I think the error was united leadership read into the employee feedback that the existing avg quarter bonus of $150 is not substantial enough to mean its trivial and meaningless. So they devised this system to randomly pay out big. The main issue is it doesn’t really reward those who do better. Also it doesn’t look good when you make the overall payout 25% of what it was. These clueless execs with their stuffy heads so far up their rear ends are the kind the ruin otherwise strong companies. How can you conclude this is a good idea?
United backtracked fairly quickly: https://www.bizjournals.com/chicago/news/2018/03/05/united-airlines-pauses-change-to-bonus-system.html
United Airline never ceases to amaze me
