The Offer

Direct link to offer

  • Receive a sign up bonus of $300 (and another $50 referral bonus) when you open any LifeGreen checking account using the promo code 300P2 and complete the following requirements:
    • Make 10 purchases with a Regions Visa Checkcard
    • Make $500 or more in qualifying direct deposits

regions bank

Finding your account number can be tricky. To do so, following these instructions:

  • Click customer service
  • My profile
  • Edit Account Name

The Fine Print

  • Qualifying direct deposits are payments from the government or payroll
  • Requirements must be completed within 60 days of account opening
  • Bonus will be credited within 120 days of completing the requirements
  • New customers only
  • All bank account bonuses are treated as income/interest and as such you have to pay taxes on them

Avoiding Fees

There is an early account closure fee of $25 if you close your account within 180 days of account opening. There are four checking accounts that are currently offered, but there are only two that should be really considered. You can compare all four by clicking here.

LifeGreen Checking $8-$10 Monthly Fee

This account can have it’s monthly fee removed if you do any of the following:

  • Have an average monthly balance of $1,500 or more
  • Receive a single qualifying direct deposit of $500 or more per cycle
  • Receive cumulative direct deposits of $1,000 or more per cycle

LifeGreen eAccess Account $8-10 Monthly Fee

This account can have it’s monthly fee waived if you make 10 or more Regions card purchases per cycle

Referral Bonus $50

Note: One reader mentioned that on the refer website that this referral bonus does not stack with the $300 promotion. Can anybody confirm?

There is also a referral bonus you can receive in addition to this $300 bonus (bringing the total to $350). You need to mention the full name and e-mail address of the person who refers you to get this bonus (they’ll also receive a $50 bonus). Thanks to reader Vijay for mentioning this, you should consider using his information so you both get an extra $50:

  • Name: VIJAYARAGHAVAN NATARAJAN
  • E-mail: vijnatarajan@gmail.com

Our Verdict

In the past Regions bank have offered a $165 bonus with the same requirements, although it was open to more areas (this offer has since expired). I recommended that bonus because it ticked all of the right boxes (e.g soft pull, easy to meet requirements and you can also fund a little with a credit card) and this one is even better because the bonus is almost double.

Unfortunately I don’t live within the target area, otherwise I would have jumped at this deal. If you plan to complete this deal, here’s what I do:

  • Open a lifegreen checking account, using a credit card with it’s cash advance limit set to $0 to fund $1,000
  • Open a free savings account, using the same credit card to fund it initially for another $1,000
  • Transfer the $1,000 from the savings account to the checking account, this will give me a monthly balance of $2,000 (this is more than $1,500 required to waive the monthly fee)
  • Make 10 card purchases (here are some ideas on how to easily and cheaply fulfill this requirement)
  • Make an ACH transfer of $500+ from an existing account to trigger the direct deposit requirement (if it’s easy to change your payroll I’d recommend doing this instead – it’s important to note that only your payroll and government benefits officially count when it comes to the fine print. In reality any ACH has worked in the past)
  • Wait 120 days for the bonus to post, if it doesn’t post contact customer service
  • Wait another 60 days (a total of 180 days from account opening) to close the account and avoid any early account termination fee

In total you’d make $300 and whatever credit card points you earned on the $2,000 in funding. I haven’t added this to our list of the best bank bonuses, because it’s geographically restricted but if you live within the area then it’s definitely one of the best deals out there. You can view a full list of all current checking bonuses by going here.

I live 2 hrs from Tampa and I have a local Regions bank. Also, my parents live in Tampa, so I’m back there somewhat regularly. Would I be able to sign up while in Tampa? How does it verify where you live? Any chance it’s good at my local Regions?

One more thing to add, they give $50 bonus referral to you and another $50 to your friend who opens the account and meet the requirements. Make sure you ask for that at the branch for each referral you make. Looks like this promotion will run through until 4/15/2015. Hurry up guys!

I also checked with my local branch in Dallas and they refused to make an exception for me.

Thanks for your post. I just opened a regions account today. However, I got rejected twice using BoA 2.625X travel credit card since I lowered the cash advance limit to $100. I ended up using UFB direct debit card instead.

I am not regretted that I lowered the cash advance limit. I have been bitten twice by BoA travel card and one time by Barclays Arrival since last October. I got charged 3 X $10 cash advance fee when I loaded Serve last October 3 days in a row using BoA Travel. I was also bitten another $10 by one small bank using Arrival.

Does this refer to those metro areas of the cities themselves?

Hi William,

Yep. this $50 referral bonus each (for referrer and account opener) is on top of $300 bonus. BTW, I didn’t get what you mean by “f so, feel free to share your referral information here Vijay and I’ll add it to the post.”

Cheers,

Vijay

I did this and Regions lost my money. Really. At the end of the application, I funded my new checking and savings accounts from my credit card, and the money was charged, but Regions now says that I don’t have an account and they can’t find the money—they are looking for it. Crazy.

If you fund it with a credit card, wouldn’t that mean you’re doing a cash advance and thus are incurring cash advance fees? I’d like to do this offer, but not if I’ll be using part of the $300 to repay the credit card fees. And if I set card’s cash advance limit to $0 (how do I do that?), wouldn’t that mean I can’t use it to fund this account? Your website is great, btw. Thanks.

I guess you didn’t like my comment/question? 🙂

Hi William,

UPDATE: This $350 deal has come alive from grave (looks like that promo website was down for couple of days). One can simply google ‘Regions $300’ and the 1st link that pops out is this promo link. Everyone, make use of it before it goes down again or they close it.

Good Luck!

I have made two seperate calls to Regions customer service because I live in FL but about an hour and a half away from Tampa and wanted to take advantage of this promotion. It is NOT an in-branch offer they do not have a way to insert promo codes at the branch. Anyways, through the phone I verified by zip code and they said the promo code would work for me(twice). I opened account online using promo code hopefully I will get the bonus once the requirements are fulfilled.

Applying online there is no place to insert a referral so I was not eligible for the additional $50.

UPDATE:

I went into the branch and even though it was 2 days after opening account they sent in the paperwork for refer-a-friend off to their offers department.

They couldnt tell me what the offer was but noticed my account had an online promotion attached to it, since I did the 300M promotion code.

I should be able to get the $300 online checking promotion+$50 Visa card utilizing this method.

Sharing my experience:

Signed up on 4/6 or 4/7. Funded both accounts (checking and savings) with Business Marriott Card with CA set to $20 (lowest they said to could set it to) with $1000 each (No CA Fees).

13 Debit card transactions (Comprised of a bunch of $.50-$.80 gas transactions and few vegetable purchases at the self checkout section in Walmart, extra 3 transactions for cushion) spread over 5-6 days.

4/15 sent $501 from my Credit Union account (ACH) to Regions, posted 4/20.

4/24 $300 Bonus posted today

Thank you for sharing this

Yesterday 5/02, I took my friend to my nearby Regions Branch as he cannot open online since being a Greencard holder and they honored the $300 coupon as well as Refer a friend. I don’t know may be it’s expired 4/30 online but you can check with your local branch and they might honor your request.

Good Luck!

Vijay
