The Offer
- REV Financial Credit Union is offering a $200 bonus when you open a new checking account and complete the following requirements:
- Open a new qualified checking account (i.e. Premier, Bulldog, Easy Checking)
- Open a 12 Month Savings Builder Certificate
- An aggregate of at least $500 must be electronically deposited into the qualified checking account within 45 days of account opening
The Fine Print
- For new members only. Members must be at least 18 years of age, have not had an open membership within the last 18 months, and have not caused the credit union a loss in the past. To receive the $200 deposit (bonus), the applicant must open a qualified checking account (i.e. Premier, Bulldog, Easy Checking) and a 12 Month Savings Builder Certificate. An aggregate of at least $500 must be electronically deposited into the qualified checking account within 45 days of account opening (electronic deposits may be in the form of direct deposit, mobile deposit capture, ATM deposit, or ACH transfer from another institution).
- Any bonuses earned will be reported to the IRS for tax purposes.
- The member may deposit funds into the Savings Builder Certificate at any time.
- Withdrawals from the Savings Builder Certificate may be subject to an early withdrawal fee as outlined in the Truth-in-Savings Rate and Fee Schedule. See credit union for details.
- All bank account bonuses are treated as income/interest and as such you have to pay taxes on them
Avoiding Fees
Monthly Fees
Easy checking has no monthly fees.
Early Account Termination Fee
I wasn’t able to find an EATF in the fee schedule.
Our Verdict
My reading of the terms is that they will open a 12 Month Savings Builder Certificate for you and deposit the $200 bonus in there, but it’s possible that’s wrong. The 12 month certificate earns 3.75% APY but it should be possible to immediately withdraw and forgo any interest. A lot of unknowns here and it’s possible they will change terms/requirements for account opening once seeing a lot of accounts opened. I doubt this will last long.

P1 and P2 did this original offer that they posted on their website early. Opened the 12 mo. CD since there wasn’t a “savings builder” available. Then weeks later the “savings builder” was availabe so we opened it. Asked about the bonus end of May, they said NO. Then we responded back with the terms and said to call customer service. Customer service said YES, ok we will credit $200 today. They didn’t do it. Ask about it again and they said will credit $200. They didn’t do it. Asked about it again for the 3rd time and got ghosted. Filed a complaint with Consumer Protection, which was forwarded to National Credit Union. Then Rev sent an email, sorry we have credited $200 bonus which they finally did. It took 72 hours after the complaint to get the $200.
I noticed that you also followed the lead of
Tanuki in either filing an NCUA complaint or threatening to and then got the $200. It’s not clear from any of your comments if Rev is making you complete the 12 months of requirements that I need to complete to keep my $200. What say you?
It was made clear to me on the phone today the $200 would be unavailable until CD maurity in March. I had already completed the $500 transfer as per the original terms, no further requirements or restrictions were mentioned.
I believe that the 12 month requirement is in effect, yes. Granted, I didn’t try to argue them into waiving it for me since it was in the original terms anyway. I wouldn’t personally close the CD early lest they pull the bonus.
It seems that you both misunderstood my comment. I am not referring to leaving the $200 in the CD until it matures. I don’t even really consider that a “requirement”.
I am referring to the monthly requirements that I need to complete to prevent the $200 from being clawed back.
I didn’t notice your edit until now. I see that you did understand my comment but I don’t think that
Tanuki did. 😉
Just looked into what you meant. You’re referring to the current promo saying that the checking has to have like $500 in DDs each month, right? If so, then no, they’re not making me fulfill any terms that weren’t contained in the original promo offer.
Yes, correct. I also need to spend $500+ on my debit card each month.
I was thinking that you all knew about the new offer but I guess that you all only subscribed to this post.
Ah I see. And yeah, can confirm that they didn’t tell me that I have to spend $500 on the debit card each month or have $500+ in DDs in the checking account each month!
What monthly requirements are you referring to? I’m not aware of any, but I might be forgetting.
Editing to add that ah, you’re referring to the language in the new, current promo. I’ll reply to you separately.
The $200 went into my CD. I never requested or discussed a change in CD duration terms.
Nope nothing else to complete. The $200 is added to the CD already
Had kind of given up hope on this but left everything open as I did a 3 month CD with them. Seeing these positive DPs I called RevFCU on May 12th to alert them I would also be taking the NCUA route with my saved screenshots. Rep stated she would escalate to her manager and had me give them to the end of last week. Heard nothing and got around to calling again today to let them know I would be filing end of day tomorrow…instead $200 deposited into the Savings Builder I had opened back in March as we were flailing trying to figure out the requirements.
P2:
5/14/25 – opened 12 month savings builder CD with $5 with no additional Chex pull, filed NCUA complaint
5/19/25 – $200 bonus added to CD
Should’ve kept P1 account open, oh well.
Rev responded quickly to my NCUA complaint, we corresponded by email to resolve it, they offered to credit the $200 if I would allow them to convert my 12 month savings cert that I had funded and kept to the proper type of cert. I agreed. Complaint resolved, $200 was credited to the savings cert within a day or two so I think that’s locked down until the cert expires but whatever, I’m fine with it. Glad I didn’t panic close the account- but I don’t mind going through hoops.
Fwiw, the NCUA complaint process from my end worked exactly like it did under the previous Administration when I filed a complaint against a different credit union in early Jan. Who knows if it will stay like that but for now it’s still good.
No idea if anyone still looks at this page, but turns out I was right: https://www.doctorofcredit.com/rev-financial-credit-union-200-checking-bonus-direct-deposit-not-required/#comment-2008102.
I kept my checking and savings accounts open and opened the 12 month savings builder certificate with just $5. Messaged chat telling them to pay up under the old offer we all saw on their website. Chat said that I had to have fulfilled the current offer. I knew that regardless on whether an offer is made mistakenly, it’s still legally binding once you fulfill the terms, so I made my NCUA complaint. Sure enough, REV paid me my $200 promo today. https://i.gyazo.com/f8d3e88030579e9805089ae73910f031.png
Rest in peace to everyone who decided to close their accounts.
Congrats! Did you close the original CD and opened the right one after they changed the promo?
Thank you! And yes, I opened the 12 month special CD which was subsequently confirmed to be the wrong one. Closed it as soon as word came out that it didn’t qualify for the promo. They refunded the closure fee as well.
I respect your tenacious attitude as I am the same way when I know that I am in the right. It’s too bad that the vast majority of people that signed up for the 1st promo probably gave up & closed their accounts and/or unsubscribed from this post.
Did you end up going the NCUA route like the others?
What makes you think that it’s too late? If you only closed the CD, why not open the correct one like
Anthony Paganini did? He said that he contacted Rev only about a week ago so you might still be okay.
That’s a good catch as I missed that line in his original comment. I think only one other person has reported signing up for the new offer besides me. Why not join us? 😉
With how busy I have been at work, I doubt I will join you, but will see if the offer will still be up in a few months. I m not too good in MS, if it wasn’t for the spending reqs, I would have jumped immediately
Congrats lol. Did they do another Chex pull when you opened the new CD?
Here’s your answer: #2053673 .
I closed P1’s accounts but still have P2 open. Will also try opening CD then NUCA complaint
the current promotion is WAY worse with a 12 month clawback if you close or withdraw from the CD before maturity.
https://www.revfcu.com/save-more/
A forfeiture of the $200 bonus will occur in the event either 1. the Qualified Checking Account is closed before the initial maturity date of the Savings Builder Certificate , or 2. if any withdrawals from the Savings Builder Certificate occur which may be subject to an early withdrawal penalty fee as outlined in the Truth-in-Savings Rate and Fee Schedule. In addition, a forfeiture of the $200 bonus may occur in the event the monthly qualifications of the Qualified Checking Account are not met throughout the initial term of the Savings Building Certificate.
they have responded to my NUCA complaint to which my response is basically:
give me the original terms and none of this new garbage that the current promotion currently has
Are you implying that Rev wrote that they are allowing you to do the new requirements even though you technically aren’t eligible?
yes, I did negotiate that with the contact person after I filed my NUCA complaint.
they still want the other terms such as the 12 month lockup, so I declined, but if you want to contact them and negotiate that for yourself, they should allow you to open up the right CD and do the bonus.
What “12 month lockup” are you referring to?
BTW, stay tuned for a future comment from me in the new Rev post.
I assume they’re talking about the 12-month lockup on the cd (one of the new promo terms is that they’ll claw back the bonus if you withdraw early)- so basically if someone wanted to eat the early withdrawal penalty to get part of the bonus, rev will take the whole thing back and you get nothing
Haven’t checked this for a while. Seems that ppl who signed up for the first batch of promotion, no one got it?
I didn’t. Chatted last week, told to call, declined to call as I want all this in writing and sent a message through the account messaging system. Didn’t hear back. Filed NCUA complaint.
Called REV today and closed my accounts. The rep asked for the reason and I mentioned the botched promotion last month. She knew immediately what I was talking about. She closed the accounts, emailed me a receipt of the transaction showing money was withdrawn and will be mailed by check number xxxxxxx. Time to move on to better deals.
Gotta wonder about their target demographic.
Which person, who is not unbankable, is over 18 years of age and has not had an open checking account within the last 18 months?
Here’s the new link: https://www.revfcu.com/save-more/
You might not have noticed this but I haven’t conversed with you since our argument(s) in the Zynlo post. Anyway, after seeing your comment here, I’ve decided to use a phrase from
mothman69 and realize that you were just “Karl being Karl”.
That being said, you make a good point but isn’t it a lot more likely that Rev just erred by not writing “with Rev” in the fine print?
Also, I already put the new offer link in the post a few comments down.
