Amazon and Target are offering 50% discount on 23andMe test kits.
Target: 23andMe Personal Ancestry DNA Test Kit – Lab Fee Included for $49 (reg. $99.99)- Amazon: 23andMe DNA Test – Health + Ancestry Personal Genetic Service – includes 125+ reports on Health, Wellness, Ancestry & More for $99.99 (reg. $199)
The Target deal is for the Ancestry-only kit, without the health information. The Amazon kit is for the full package.
Please do your own research before ordering these (especially the health kit) since some people find the information to be overwhelming. There are also other brands who compete with 23andMe, and likely some have similar kinds of deals as well. 23andMe is the most popular company, I believe.
Looks like target is $79 now.
That’s test kit, not health kit.
Target price at $80 now?
can anyone who has done the health info speak to the information from it? Has it helped your situation personally?
FWIW, I liked it. Validated some things I’d heard in the family, but I also didn’t discover anything surprising. You can also take your raw data from 23andMe and run through another service called Promethease for $5 and get some additional still-being-researched-and-definitely-not-conclusive info.
good to know thx
I did learn some suspected ancestry, and some surprising Ancestry data.
Some of the medical info that I carried the “gene” i can be proactive about i.e. early on set Alz.
Other about the traits were about 70% on target – which was amazing that they could narrow traits down to certain genes/chromosomes.
I did both 23andMe and Ancestry last Black Friday and ordered a Ancestry for my Mom. Going to order 23and me now for Mom & Dad so I can differentiate the ancestry heritage by parent.
Have family Tree on Dad’s side going back almost a millennia, but we have little info and family history on my Maternal Grandparents so perhaps I may find a relative that has more information.
I will say that Ancestry was off on relatives i.e. mom’s cousins and uncles, but was accurate for 23 and me, which is odd.
its kinda disconcerting how the DNA info is being used nowadays.
Don’t forget to implicate your relatives while you’re at it!
and future generations, FOREVER!
Seriously people. If you are going to do this at least use a fake name, burner email and credit card. This 5 minute precaution could be a big deal in you or a relatives future. Unfortunately for many it’s already too late.
