Shoprite: Get 10x Ultimate Rewards Points when Using Chase Pay with Freedom or Sapphire Cards

The Offer

SapphireFreedom / Freedom Unlimited / Sapphire Reserve

  • Chase is offering 10x Ultimate Rewards points for Shoprite and shoprite.com purchase of up to $400 when using your Freedom, Freedom Unlimited, or any Sapphire version card

The Fine Print

  • Valid January 1st until February 4th, 2018
  • Valid in-store and online
  • Max $400 in purchases earn the bonus points
  • Please note that purchases made through ShopRite Delivers (ShopRitedelivers.com) are excluded from this promotion
  • Please note that purchases from ShopRite affiliate business such as Price Rite, The Fresh Grocer, Dearborn Market, and ShopRite Wine & Spirits stores are excluded
  • Valid on Freedom, Freedom Unlimited, Sapphire, Sapphire Preferred, and Sapphire Reserve

Our Verdict

Keep in mind this is a total of 10x points, not 10x bonus points. For example on the Chase Freedom you’re earning 5x points as part of the Q1 5x categories (and this will count towards the $1,500 spend limit) and then a further 5x on this promotion, Freedom Unlimited earns 1.5x on all purchases and then an extra 8.5x. They offered a similar promotion last month but it was only for 5x. Make sure to stack this with other Shoprite gift card deals that they periodically offer.

Does it mean I can get 9x bonus with this promotion if I use up my $1500 quota before doing this deal, or will I still get 5x bonus (for a total of 6x)?

For anyone wondering, they don’t sell Amazon gift cards.

I haven’t bought any GCs at ShopRite in quite a while but recall the last few times I did, I was told cash or debit only, at 2 different SRs. Anyone have any current data points regarding GCs being purchased with a CC, or more specifically CC via Chase Pay? Thanks.

In reference to the WIne & Spirits, there are only a few of those freestanding stores. If you’re lucky enough to have a Shop Rite that includes liquor (e.g. Cinnaminson, Burlington) and lets you checkout at any register staffed by someone of legal age, then the beverages will post as groceries!
ShopRite changed VGC/MCGC vendors last year, so the gift cards now charge fees in the neighborhood of 3%.

I’d like to take advantage of this, but wouldn’t it be smartest to max out my freedom on the 5x 1st then max out this 10x so I can get both offers?

Also, does this work on VGCs (I don’t see why it wouldn’t)? Based on your comment, it seems to work on store gift cards.

Thanks for the heads up!

Can’t do that with freedom. $400 Payment with Chase pay will count towards your quota of $1500. So effectively you get an additional 5x points with this offer specifically with freedom. Also doc mentioned that in the post “Keep in mind this is a total of 10x points, not 10x bonus points. For example on the Chase Freedom you’re earning 5x points as part of the Q1 5x categories (and this will count towards the $1,500 spend limit) and then a further 5x on this promotion”

Same question:
Does it work on VGC or MCGC?

If so, I’d max out with Sapphire card and keep Freedom for $1500 Q1 5x Gas and Mobile Pay.

Thanks~

Do ShopRite employees know about Chase Pay?

Some of them don’t even know about Android Pay or Apple Pay.

What are the MS options with shoprite, do they sell any good gift cards or vgc etc ? I do not see anything online, and the store is far away for me !

Has anyone tried to use Chase pay at the register to buy gift cards at Shoprite?

Tom

Was able to buy gift cards using Chase Pay at a SR in NJ. Chase Pay is new to them so it took a little while for the cashier to figure out they have to hit the Chase Pay button on their keyboard then scan QR code on my phone.

Can anyone who tried post DP on 10x UR buying VGC or MCGC?

Many thanks~

Wondering how can we maximize chase pay by seperating Chase Unlimited/Freedom/Sapphire accounts.

Is it possible?

Mike

Have you enrolled and logged into Chase Pay app? Unsure what you mean by separating accounts, but within one login, all associated cards are there, and you can flip through to select which one you want to pay with. My Chase Pay has Freedom Unlimited & CSR. I simply pick which to pay with when using Chase Pay. For for whatever many applicable cards you have, do a separate transaction and pick a card… Or did you mean something else?

Is the offer per card or per chase pay account ?

Chase Pay app never worked for me, will try to work with Chase Customer care. .

Per card as stated above by William Charles

The shop rite people have to click some button on their screen to scan for Chase pay, it does not work the same as it does as Android pay, FYI

When Chase says Sapphire card, does that include the Sapphire Preferred and Sapphire Reserve as well?

Froide

“Sapphire” usually refers to 3 cards (Sapphire, Sapphire Preserve, Sapphire Reserve), but there are mixed DP. I’ve read some posts (e.g., that of Kelly, using CSR, see post 546870 below) reporting some Sapphire cards didn’t qualify for this promo, and others (e.g., that of Jeff, see post #547048) reporting Chase confirms both CSP and CSR qualify.

Just asked the store managers at two local ShopRites in Philly area – neither had any clue whatsoever what ChasePay is, so not looking good for this promo….bummer…

Lawnside, NJ shoprite has chase pay

Which one did you try? I’m going to check the two in West Philly (Parkside and Haverford) and see if this is a go at either of them.

Did not work on sapphire reserve with chase pay. Messaged chase about missing points and they said this card did not qualify.

Michael
Michael

Do you know if it works for Preferred?

Jeff
Jeff

I followed up with chase and they told me that this is valid for CSP and CSR. “The bonus points will post to your account within a week of the transaction posting. They will appear on your monthly credit card billing statement and be available for use within 1-2 billing cycles. Let us know if you have any other questions.” We’ll see.

Michael
Michael

Thanks for following up. The December offer said specifically CSP and CSR; not the generic “Sapphire” so i was confused.

Also, when you click the “Sapphire” ad, it shows a picture of the CSP.

Kelly

Thanks. Interesting that I got a different response. Did you inquire through secure message? Also- did you provide any documentation of the offer?

Did you get the bonus points added? Still no positive DPs on CSR as yet…so I’m going to try today to buy 500 VGC and split on 2 Chase Pays 400+106.

HarryTheFirstHarry
HarryTheFirstHarry

SR does not have 500 VGC anymore at least most locations I checked today did not. 200 is the max VGC now with 6.95 fee. Still 40 – 14 = $26MM so went ahead and bought. Now to see if the bonus points post on CSR

HarryTheFirstHarry
HarryTheFirstHarry

My CSR ChasePay posted, but with only 1 point per dollar. Going to wait for statement and then contact them with screenshots of offer and also the tweet from above.

Michael
Michael

Oh, sorry for the confusion. I never contacted Chase. i just know it worked in December but the promo ad was a little different.

Gerald
Gerald

I believe last month’s deal showed up as soon as the transaction posted. I suspect they messed up.

daniel
daniel

Yeah This happened for December promotion as well. So to be safe, I’m not using CSR until proven otherwise.

I get the feeling Chase’s system has some issue with Chase Pay and CSR. Maybe it has to do with the Ebags Chase Pay promo where they explicitly included only CSP and CS and that system overtook all promo or something.

Jeff

Here is another datapoint that points didn’t post for my CSR purchase.

Not work for CSR
