[Expired] SoFi Invest $25 Bonus When You Invest $10+

Deal has expired, view more SoFi Invest deals by clicking here.

Update 8/15/19: Deal is back, must invest $10+. Valid until August 30th, 2019.

The Offer

Direct link to offer

  • SoFi is offering a $25 bonus when you open a new SoFi Securities LLC active brokerage account and fund it with at least $10. $25 bonus will be in the form of a fractional share in a company

The Fine Print

  • To receive the offer, you must: open a new SoFi Securities LLC active brokerage account through the signup link you were given, and add at least $1 to your brokerage account.
  • The offer only applies to new active brokerage accounts.
  • The offer is limited to one per person.
  • The offer expires on August 12th, 2019.
  • Once conditions are met and account is opened, you will receive $25 which will be paid in a fractional share (or fractional shares) in a publicly traded company.
  • The number of fractional shares delivered for the bonus will be determined based on the execution price at which SoFi Securities acquires the shares.
  • Please note, given the Welcome Bonus will be paid in the form of a marketable security, the dollar value of the Bonus will change as the price of that security changes, which will result in a change in value of the Bonus provided.
  • SoFi reserves the right to change the form of consideration used to pay the Welcome Bonus at any time without advance notice.
  • Bonus amounts of $600 or greater in a single calendar year may be reported to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) as miscellaneous income to the recipient on Form 1099-MISC in the year received by applicable law.
  • Recipient is responsible for any applicable federal, state or local taxes associated with receiving the bonus offer, consult your tax advisor to determine applicable tax consequences.
  • SoFi reserves the right to change or terminate the offer at any time or without notice.

Our Verdict

Normally you can get a bonus of $25 when investing $25+ if you use a SoFi referral link, although SoFi is strict on not allowing these to be publicly posted. This bonus is better for the person signing up as a deposit of only $1 is required. For a lot of people this bonus of $25 won’t be worth doing just due to the hassle and tax implication, but it’s still an easy $25 so we will be adding this to our list of the best brokerage bonuses.

Sofi Invest is very capability-limited. You can only place market buy orders when the market is open. Robinbood or YouInvest are much more compelling services.

That said, worth having if you live in a major city. Sofi hosts events (wine tasting, axe throwing) and they’re available for free for members.

Do you know any banks/CU that hosts holiday events and provides free entry for its members in the bay area? Remember seeing a comment from someone but forgot it.

Those limitations could be because they allow fractional investing, i.e. <1 share of AMZN. Most of other brokers (RH, Webull etc) don't allow that.
But still, never use market orders

Yelp also hosts hatchet throwing and wine tasting events

I already have a SoFi account. Can I open a new one with a different email address to get the bonus?

I signed up recently through a referral link. With this specific langauge, “The offer only applies to new active brokerage accounts. The offer is limited to one per person.” do you think I will be able to sign up for this one adding on a second brokerage account?

Update: I followed along through the links and it says, “Whoops. Looks like you already have an Active account and don’t qualify for your stock.”

Just FYI:

Sorry, non-permanent resident aliens are currently not eligible for Active Investing with Sofi.

Isn’t that pretty common?

Any existing SoFi customers manage to get this? Going through the link takes me briefly to the signup page, then on to the standard Invest page with no mention of a bonus.

I used a link from an email they sent out last week…chose amazon for my free 25 but havent noticed it added yet. Just deposited a dollar from my Sofi account so hope its a 30 day thing, but it appeared in newsletter:

It took 14 days for the bonus to post for me after signing up via referral.

I am a Sofi Money customer. I saw an ad on Facebook a month ago (for https://www.sofi.com/invest/active-promo/ which offers $25 cash), and noted the same thing. I emailed Sofi and asked them if I would qualify. They told me to just click the login link and login and sign up – however the bonus did not post automatically (was supposed to post in 10 business days) and I had to email them so they could apply it manually.

How long does it take for the bonus to post? Anyone’s ever done this one before?

I didn’t realize when i opened this but apparently i have an active account with them from last year…I guess from a different promotion?

It seemed to allow me to open the new account, choose my $25 reward, and fund the new account, so fingers crossed!

Looks like the referral offer is you get $50 and your friend gets $50 when you refer and they invest $100. Great move for people in 2 player mode!

I am just about to start investing for the first time, I’ve been living poverty level until now (age 37). Paid off biz startup expenses and just now getting started (did a lil emergency fund with netspend first). I’m self-employed and/or get 1099’s from my employers, no benefits to do 401k or anything like this. Since I’m starting from $0 this seems like it is by far the best account out there for people like me- no fees until over $10k. I’d only be putting hundred or couple/month. There was no mention of a minimum amount or minimum monthly contributions. Am I missing anything? What’s the advantage or disadvantage of fractional shares? I picked the Vanguard SP 500 ETF as my “stock” here.

Taxable brokerage can wait. You have 20 years of catching up tax-advantaged accounts (SEP IRA, SIMPLE IRA, Solo 401(k), Traditional IRA, Roth IRA). Now that you’re doing financially better, continue living on a dime, like you did during low GDP, high unemployment, dot-com bubble, September 11th attacks, energy crisis, housing bubble, auto industry crisis, Great Recession, etc. Sure your friends will think you’re still poor and stop inviting you to expensive dinner parties, but then you get to retire ten years before the rest of them.

Opened this five days ago, but bonus still hasn’t posted–which I only note because Sofi bonuses have always been pretty instantaneous-to-24-hours. hm.

Drop has a $50 offer, if you value a $50 gift card more than $25 of stock. However, the Drop offer requires a $100 investment vs. $1 here.

For anyone else wondering about the bonus posting…

After signing up (Aug 3) and not getting bonus for a few days, I contacted SoFi. They said it takes 7-10 days for the bonus to post. I’ll report back when it posts.

Can it be a very small reward for providing SSN to another company?

I just make the assumption that my SSN is already listed on some onion pastebin list, since it probably is. As they say…”mo’ worries, mo’ problems”
