This should be listed as Targeted – only a small subset of premium users have been targeted to get the free unit, others can register and may or may not get invited before they end the free promo.

I’ll give it a shot for $7 if I can get on the list.

This feels like an April fools joke given it’s name is literally “Car Thing”.

The huge knob blocks part of the screen. I have OCD. That annoys me.

And why must the promo pic show the device blocking the vents??

I don’t think anyone with premium can get this. You’ll have to signup and then be invited.

Is this thing real? Why would someone needs this over integration in your smartphone? Or even better they should integrate maps and spotify control as an overlap instead.

they know you can buy a cheap smartphone for the $80 they’re trying to sell this for right

A cheap smartphone allows the user to use any streaming service. This is a device that is locked to a specific streaming service (and locked to the paid version of that specific service).

If you have this device, you are probably less likely to switch to Apple Music (or another streaming service). And if you have this device, you are probably less likely to downgrade from Spotify Premium to the Spotify ad-supported free tier.

Even though you still have your smartphone, if you have this device in your car, you are probably more likely to say “Well, I already have this device. I might as well keep using it.”

And if you don’t yet have Spotify Premium and you see that this advertised as $80 device is being given away for “free”, you are more likely to subscribe to Spotify Premium to get your free device.

That’s Spotify’s logic for making this decide. At least I would guess that’s Spotify’s logic. I could be mistaken, of course.
