[Expired] Staples: No Activation Fee On $200 Visa Gift Card Purchase (11/1-11/7), Limit 5

Deal has ended, but the same deal is available this week as well.

The Offer

Direct Link to offer

  • Staples stores are selling $200 Visa gift cards with no activation fees from 11/1-11/7

The Fine Print

  • Limit 5 per customer
  • Valid 11/1-11/7
  • In-store only

Our Verdict

Seeing a lot of these back to back deals at the moment, this week is Mastercard but before that it was a few weeks of Visa. Remember to use a card that earns at a high rate on office supply store purchases.

Any issues buying these to meet bonus spend on Chase Sapphire Preferred? Does Chase care how I meet spend?

Nope you’re basically fine with nearly any purchase for meeting the minimum spending on a Chase card.

Any restrictions, such as the ones stated clearly on the sign and spelled out in your weekly circular, are only limited by your imagination and moral conscience.

Doug: Say hello to your hero.
Carrie: What?
Doug: We needed toothpaste, right? Well, it was on sale for $1.09. Trouble is, it was only one to a customer. So how did I get 5, you ask? Well, Doug bought one. Then 10 minutes later, British Doug bought a jolly good one. Then..
Carrie: Did you get my father’s eyedrops?
Doug: Excuse me. I was about to introduce you to Clumsy Shop-Teacher Doug.
Carrie: So the one thing I asked you to get, you didn’t get.
Doug: No, but 5 tubes of toothpaste! We’ll never need toothpaste again! We win!

As usual plenty in my local store. They do a good job keeping it stocked.

Noticed several posters below from Virginia, with variety of theories and speculation on MO limits and such. Can clear up part of this with something all can verify by checking the signs now at Food Lion CSR desks….. e.g., by Virginia law, no merchant here can sell money orders greater than $750 without them being formally issued to someone. That law may explain why Kroger money centers, at least here in Virginia, won’t sell MO’s > $750. May also help explain Walmart’s change last year to require pay to names on MO’s $800 and up. (food lion, itself btw, is another story…. MO’s are limited at FL to $500 — and as for using debit cards to fund them, depends very much on which part of the state you’re in….. and even then, depends on which FL CSR you get…. Have been told flatly contradictory things at even the same FL’s…. HUCA applies…. er, be polite, try later when not busy.)

Which credit card is offering 5-6% for staples purchase (apart from chase ink card)?

Several 5X/5% cards already provided in the link posted by Will. Moving UR from CIC to Sapphire and using PYB makes 6.25-7.5%.

how can you use PYB on a staples purchase

Celia

You can’t but you can use the UR points from the Staples purchase toward grocery purchases and other PYB categories.

^This. 2x/3x bonus on $1K monthly grocery spend started today. With PYB, $1K is reduced to $975 or $955, and further reduced to $0 w/ 78K or 64K UR. Quickest way to earn that is to purchase the max limit of Staples VGCs for 16 or 13 days. I know where to put $1K free groceries, but it’s those 64-78 gift cards that worry me!

LOL. I am not as ambitious as you there. 🙂 But I did buy 1K worth of Visas at Staples and then buy the Just4U Safeway coupon to buy 2 of the $100 Visa. I might repeat that once more with another account. I don’t have liquidation options in my area so I can’t go too heavy on the Visas for organic spend.

I know we cannot use Amex cards to buy gift cards to meet min spend… but what about a retention anniversary offer? I can use Amex card to buy these gift cards to meet this offer?
Thank you.

If you’re comfortable with them knowing that you’re buying gift cards to meet the retention offer, sure. Personally, I wouldn’t do it.

But that’s precisely my question…. does Amex allow it or not? What I am comfortable with doesn’t matter.

I wouldn’t do it IMHO. While it may seem to work, like a lot of things with Amex, I wouldn’t be surprised if they clawed it back. I am still surprised every time I get 5% back on my Simply Cash with these deals.

AMEX will “allow” it until /unless they don’t. Problem is, you won’t know until you get slapped. Why go down that path?

Apropos of GC purchases with a high point cc;
No availability of Whole Foods and Amazon cards at Staples, . I called the corporate office and they said they no longer will carry them. However, I did find a stash of $25 Amazon cards at a Staples and all 8 activated except one.

It would seem my local Staples in Hoo’ville, VA didn’t get the memo…. both today had lots of Amazon cards (in $50 denominations)

Alas, I was there for the Visa Gift Card deal — which curiously was out of stock before the store(s) opened. (and were OOS yesterday before the deal…… as in they hadn’t been restocked since the last VGC promo)

At my local supermarket (K) it depends who is behind the counter
1 we don’t do on prepaid cards
2 we only do 1500 (after that we need to ID you
3 do Unlimited

The MO’S is for $599.12 since its .88 to buy.

Be smart. do not tell, show them the side of the cards that say GIFT
