[Expired] Staples: No Activation Fee On $200 Visa Gift Card Purchase (6/7-6/13)

Deal has expired, but there is a new deal for Mastercard gift cards.

The Offer

Direct Link to offer

  • Staples stores are selling $200 Visa gift cards with no activation fees from 6/7 – 6/13.

The Fine Print

  • Limit 1 per customer
  • In-store only

Our Verdict

Works well with this Amex Offer on business cards for 10% back at Staples. Alternatively, use a card that earns a bonus at office supply stores. You can get 2% back at Staples stores with the Dosh app as well, up to $5 per day.

Update: Sometimes the employees will hide the $200 gift cards in the safe behind the counter. I had called in to confirm that some where in stock, and then when I arrived they told me they didn’t have it. I told them I had called in, and the employee I spoke to asked another cashier and found them in the safe.

First time using Payce, and it didn’t seem to trigger. Have you successfully gotten the CB?

Yes multiple times previously as recently as March, even on transactions that occurred on the same card in one day. It does seem to take a few days to show up though and sometimes months to verify.

All sold out at 4 stores in my area. Was told that it most likely won’t be restocked before the promo ends 🙁

Whoa are there that many churners out there? or is it people actually buying them as gifts?

Might be an overzealous manager who pulled all their stock so they didn’t have to deal with it, though in mv experience that’s usually an issue at Office Depot than Staples.

If you’re asking if a Staples GC can purchase a Visa GC, then no it can’t.

That is not necessarily true unless it changed in the past few months. Its YMMV. System does not block gift card as a form of payment for any purchase. In my experience, very east to use, especially if you are buying other items with V/MC gift cards.

It also depends if you have a *friendly* cashier.

Chaser123 so, the system is not hardcoded? its own gc can be used for other GCs. Thx

Can we drive to multiple stores and buy one card per store?

Yes, I do this all the time. Don’t give your rewards# at checkout.

That doesn’t really have an effect one way or another.

Question for you, how do you make that worth the gas expenses? How much are you making off of these deals?

Without an AMEX Offer, it’s a free 1000 Ultimate Rewards (worth about $15) on an Ink Cash or Plus. But the limit of 1 is NOT hard-coded, and every so often the cashier lets you buy as many as you want- the register limit is 10 $200 cards which would net 10,000 Ultimate Rewards ($150). Although many of us have AMEX offers of 10% off which makes it better. Of course it all depends on how many stores are near you or are on your commute route.

Amex SimplyCash 5% CB + Amex offer 10% off up to $50 end up with about $30 CB per $200 GC
Chase Ink cash 5% UR point get me 1000 UR Point per $200 and I use UR point to pay myself back on my CSR supermarket expense at 1.5x net me about $15 per $200 GC.
I have 3 Staples within 10 miles of my house, assume I visit all of them and the trip takes 30 miles . My car run around 25-35 miles per Gallon so it probably cost 1-2 Gallon of Gas, the gas price is around $2.5 a gallon in my area so if I visit 3 store it probably cost me less than $5

Let’s assume I got 1 VGC using Amex option $30 and 2 VGC on CIC which get me $30, so 3 VGC from 3 different Staples will result with $60 cashback minus $5 gas I net $55

Of course in real life I don’t purposely drive to all 3 stores, I probably will stop by during work or running other errands
