Our Verdict

They used to offer a $15/$20 rebate for purchasing $300 in Visa/Mastercard gift cards. With this offer it might be easier to do multiples – although it does list a limit of one per customer, last time around multiples in the same order were working fine. Either way, IMO it’s much better not to have to deal with the rebate.

Use a credit card that earns at a high rate on office supply store purchases.

Just adding a data point here … like a few lucky others, I was surprised to learn that my local Staples allowed me to buy $2K in GC’s at a time. No problems Tuesday, no problems Thursday. On Saturday (today) I went back, there was plenty of VGC’s in stock, the limit is still $2K … but while paying with my Ink Plus, the payment was declined, with a message “Choose Alternate form of Payment”. I know for a fact that credit limit wasn’t an issue. Just checked my Chase account, and nothing’s locked down. So … any clue as to what triggered the refusal? Did it likely come from Staples, or Visa, or Chase?

That was a glitch in the Staples’ system. It happened to me too. The cashier told me that it had happened a few times already that day. It took several tries but my card finally did go thru.

Local Staples ran out and said they won’t be getting more in until Monday which is after the promo ends.

Got it twice for 2k so not too bad but I’m sure there were people there every single day, some likely tried twice a day after shift change at night because the cashier said “I’ve had 11 people get 2k each of these in the last 2 hours”.

The one local Staples that’s hands-off on such promos sold out all VGC after only two days. The other one with the d*ps**t manager still has racks of them, along with the $200 MCGC.

Done with staples online. They just cancel orders with no notice and no explanation.

Does Chase care if we are buying gift cards to meet the bonus terms? Is it best to buy something with the gc’s in an attempt to make it less obvious what we are buying?

I get something small for $1-2 just for my own peace of mind (I doubt it changes anything).

Jealous of y’all who can buy $2k in one transaction. Was just limited to 2x $200.

I was ringing up $1400 worth and manager came up goes those don’t have activation fees right now we sold $20k worth yesterday. Im like oh really whats the limit per day? 2k. Went and grab 3 more.

The guy at mine was super chill just hated waiting almost 5 mins for the activations on 2k worth.

I know OD will likely only let you do 2 because that’s all you’ll get their promos on, but Staples? They’re in dire need of business since OD and OM merged.

Its like staple caught on to the msing trend see no harm on their side and decided to benefit from it. But im afraid at this pace chase will do something about it, which is worst. 🙁

Well their Ink Card Caps out at 25k a year so that’s about twelve 2k trips a year so I’m guessing Chase factored things like this in.

Got 2 (although I did seperate transactions because I didn’t know it wasn’t necessary). CSR even said “oh hey, good deal, no fees!” after ringing up the second one. My store had tons of $200 ones and even a small sign out for “special promotional pricing” on them.

Bought two in one transaction, no fees. Planing to go back in a few days for more, I don’t think MS is popular around my area so I don’t fear them running out. Loaded right into my bluebird account easy same day (My acct is under a year old and still works for WM loads).
