Staples To Sell Stores To Office Depot, Still Retain Online Presence For Mid To Big Clients?

According to the New York Post Staples has recently held talks with Office Depot to spin off it’s 1,500 retail stores. A month ago Staples agree to be acquired by private equity firm Sycamore partners for $6.9 billion. If such a deal were to go through then Staples would focus on online selling to it’s mid-size and corporate clients. The other thing to keep in mind is that Staples & Office Depot have tried to combine before, both in 1997 and 2015 but the deals were rejected by the Federal Trade Commission.

Such a merger wouldn’t be good for consumers and our own purposes, as Staples frequently offers rebate offers. Obviously this is all still speculation and nothing has been announced or much less approved. What are your thoughts of such a merger? Let us know in the comments.
