Our Verdict
Definitely doesn’t hurt to do this game, especially consider you can play for free.
Hat tip to reader @Morell_Shannon
I finished the game with 230 stars, a free brewed coffee, and half off a breakfast sandwich.
Not bad, not great. Did you do it every day?
William Charles Yes I did! As usual, toward the end of the month, they kept giving me duplicate game pieces.
Finished with 160 points and a 50% discount for a breakfast sandwich.
If you get credit for your purchase in the first place. Half of the time I never get my spins. Last week they screwed me on the Weekly challenge, so I never got credit, costing me 3 extra spins.
Has anyone had any luck winning anything except bonus stars? I’ve been getting only repeat cards for the last week now
There is no option to NOT make a purchase in order to play for me.
This doesn’t seem to be amounting to much. I’ve been playing on two accounts and so far only won 10 stars and 1 free coffee. Getting a whole lot of game pieces.
I was getting stars almost every day on that summer game.
30 stars & a non-espresso-coffee coupon for me. Also unlocked a new prize-tier (just unlocking it doesn’t amount to anything). But we still have a lot of future plays. Not giving up.
Just 10 stars until now, even after completing the Weekly challenge. Not pleased
Got 10 more stars, and a cheap coffee coupon.
What was the coupon
Instant Win – a coupon for a non-espresso coffee drink. “Enjoy a coupon for a free brewed coffee, valid today through January 7th, 2019. Please present the barcode to your barista to redeem the offer”.
This seems like it might be relevant…
Members who joined the Starbucks RewardsTM loyalty program prior to November 26th, 2018 are not eligible to win a Sweepstakes prize. Entrants that become a member of the Starbucks RewardsTM loyalty program on or after November 26th, 2018 are eligible to win a Sweepstakes prize.
Wow that’s weird, and lame!
That seems… backwards. Limits like this are usually with the intent of preventing people from signing up for a bunch of duplicative accounts after the sweepstakes is announced, to get more entries. Instead, they’re preventing loyal existing customers from winning.
I click https://www.starbucksforlife.com/#board, then I got ‘You have no plays.
Make a purchase** or complete
a challenge to earn more’. After I click ‘challenge’. Did I miss anything?

Taxes on Grand Prize ….. Yikes!
According to contest rules for Grand Prize…. Approximate Retail Value (“ARV”): $56,575
I know everyones tax situation is different, but at a 25% Tax Rate you are looking at over $14,000 in Taxes!
At $5 per menu item, you would need to visit Starbucks at least 2,800 times just to break even!
So, would you accept the prize?
I have yet to visit a Starbucks even once this year, but…maybe?
How often do you get to say you won the grand prize in any sweepstakes?
“Grand, First and Second First Prize Winners will be responsible for income tax based on the retail
price of the items that are redeemed and will receive an annual IRS Form 1099 for each tax year
where the total value of the prize redeemed is equal to $600 or more.”
I’d hope I would limit myself to visiting less than 100 times per year haha
You can always challenge the ARV
Yup, I won a grand prize in a sweepstakes last year (not this one) and successfully challenged the ARV.
