[Expired] Target: Trade In A Car Seat & Get 20% Off A New Car Seat, Stroller Or Select Baby Gear (9/13 – 9/26)

Deal has ended, view more Targt deals by clicking here.

The Offer

Direct link to offer

  • Target is offering 20% off a new car seat, stroller or select baby gear when you trade in a old car seat by from September 13 – September 26

The Fine Print

  • Target will accept and recycle all types of car seats, including infant seats, convertible seats, car seat bases, harness or booster car seats and car seats that are expired or damaged. Materials from the old car seats will be recycled by Target’s partner, Waste Management.

Our Verdict

Last year this was offered Walmart had a similar deal but for a $30 gift card, not sure if that will be the case this year or not. I had no idea that these seats actually have an expiry date due to the plastic used and that buying used seats isn’t a good idea until I first started covering these types of deals.

Any idea what “select baby gear” means? I have some old car seats I can get rid of but have already bought new ones. Thinking about what else I can get with the coupon.

What happened to the Target cashback portals? Does anyone know when they are coming back?

Does anyone know if the 20% is capped at a certain amount!? Like $40?

The * terms link to details takes you to the current promos page. I imagine once the promo is actually current it will be listed there with the super-fine print. This is Target we are talking about… how much is their super deluxe car seat or stroller? $200 max? So.. if we are taking bets, $30-$40 sounds about right.

Finally a use for sorting from highest to lowest price! Baby Jogger City Mini 2 3-Wheel Travel System With City GO 2 Infant Car Seat – Jet Black is on sale for $479.99. Dunno if you can use the 20% off coupon, since it’s a combination car seat/stroller.

No capped. I was able to redeem the code for a $264 car seat (which is on sale from $330). The price after discount is $211.2, and then I can stack with 5% code for my birthday.

We had an awesome stack, too. $50 off $100, $30 GC from their last promo which we used to stock up on diapers using another $50 off $100 coupon, plus this 20%!

They list the dates of the trade-in as 9/13-9/26 but does that mean the 20% coupon is only good through the 26th? Also, can the coupon be used online? I’d like to drop off a car seat, get the coupon, wait until 10/1, and use my Discover card at target.com, which will then be in the 5% category. Also, has this been valid on all car seats, or are there excluded brands?

If anything like WM, they don’t care what brand. They can’t resell them, and it’s just a promo to get you back in the door to do some spending. Oh, and it’s to keep kids safe… Yeah. Sure.

I am sure more details will come out, but I highly doubt the discount would expire that quickly. I would imagine it would be for at least a month, if not a year or more. (The WM GC’s did not expire.)

Do keep in mind that WM ended their deal early because they were getting too many… but it was for a much better deal vs getting a discount. This offer will have a much more limited appeal.

There are no excluded brands or types (or shouldn’t be) – they are recycled. I just recycled one.

Answering my own question from the FAQ: What is the coupon offer and how do I redeem it?

Get a 20% off coupon with Target Circleâ„¢ toward a new car seat, booster seat, base, travel system, stroller or select baby gear item. Coupons can be applied to both in-store and online purchases through October 3, 2020. This coupon can be combined with other item offers.

I actually got a better deal than I was planning. Got second-hand Target gift cards at a 7.5% discount, and paid for them with PayPal, snagging the Discover 5% for this quarter. Since you can immediately load Target gift cards to your account, there’s little risk to used gift cards.

Uh oh, if Walmart offers their better promotion, there’s gonna be an uptick in car break ins again.

Hide yo kids AND your car seats.

I don’t foresee Walmart doing that good of an offer again. Given the current unemployment rate… yeah, there would be even more vandals.

When I dropped mine off and there was a stack nearly to the ceiling at my WM, all stained and stinky from the dumpsters they came out of… Mine was double-bagged, in a zippered case in nearly pristine condition, the lady actually thought I was returning it… not doing the GC deal. I am sure they “recycle” them alright, right back to China where they came from.

I miss dumpster diving in my college days. Always do it on the week of move out days on campus and when lease agreements end off campus. And if you really want to be sneaky, just walk into college kids houses. They never keep their doors locked.

Wear a collared shirt and carry a clipboard. Go anywhere. Should be a slogan for your underground stolen goods and intel collection services

I wanted to work for the CIA but I never passed the security clearance prescreen. However they have no problem accepting my interviews/answers for the half dozen of FBI interviews for other people’s security clearances. I would have been a super spy.

I imagine a character witness has a pretty low bar… As long as when the investigator shows you a badge and you don’t run for the door you are allowed to provide input, LOL.

You can show me a plastic badge, I wouldn’t know the difference. Same goes for ID. How would an average joe know what’s real or fake? Anybody can carry a side piece on their hip too, for the authoritative look.

Well, you know ahead of time these interviews are taking place… but I know what you are saying. Nothing you say in those interviews is supposed to be of a classified nature as I recall. Watch the FX TV series The Americans and you can see some of how con artists work though, dramatized for TV of course. Take some small facts to build credibility and earn trust.

You can also take empty kegs off peoples balconies and porches to get the $30 deposit back. Somebody climbed my two story balcony and threw them off. Bastards.

Any idea how many times this can be done? I have twins and 4 car seats (dad’s car and mom’s car). Can I recycle 4 seats and get 4x 20% off coupons?

When I’ve done this in the past, they have a big cardboard box near the customer service desk where you deposit the seat and then they give you a coupon with a unique code. I imagine you could drop off all four at once but, worst case, you could make multiple trips – they don’t ask for any identifying information before they give you the coupon.

You need 4 Target accounts. The coupon is limited 1 per account.
