Update 1/3/2020: Deal is back and valid until March 31st, 2020. Unfortunately no working direct link currently.

Update 8/22/19: Added a direct link to see if you’re eligible. Hat tip to reader Srikrishna P

The Offer

Direct link to offer None

  • American Express is offering some Bonvoy Brilliant cardholders a $25 statement credit if they spend $25+ or more by March 31st, 2020

The Fine Print

  • Must register by October 15th, 2019

Our Verdict

Seems to be targeted towards people with the annual fee coming up, I’d personally still call retention to see if you can get a better offer.

Which card is this? SPG Personal or biz? No idea what – opposite of brilliant – name they come up with.

I did not get an email but the link worked for me. My AF is coming up in September.

I wonder if a $25 Marriott gift card purchase will trigger even though against T&C?

An interesting data point…I have no idea if this works for everyone or just me. But, I just attempted to click on the link and I got the standard error link. However, when I attempted to open the link after incognito, the offer appeared for me. So if you didn’t receive the offer after attempting it regularly, try incognito and see if it works.

Hopefully it stacks with the Marriott Amex offer spend $200 get $40 and the $300 annual credit.

Appeared this week in a banner notice in my AmEx desktop login, card anniversary next week & AF due to post in about a month. Would be nice if this stacks with the reset annual $300 Marriott credit, which I plan to do anyway for the $40 off $200 AmEx offer.

Going forward, plan is to skip the retention call and just downgrade to the Bonvoy (SPG) personal card. I’ll still get the 50k FNA two statements after AF posts, then I’ll wait for a targeted upgrade.

The 50k FNA is only on the Brilliant, you would get a 35k FNA if you had the personal instead and there have been reports of they only prorating the AF minus any of the used credit so be careful but YMMV

T&C on Brilliant: as long as the account is open when the FNA posts (~2 statements after AF), even if you convert to another card, you will receive the FNA for the card type open on your account anniversary date, not when AF posts.

50k FNA will post if you downgrade.

DP: 2nd $300 Marriott Brilliant hotel credit, $40 off $200 AmEx offer credit, $25 off $25 targeted Brilliant anniversary credit all posted for single purchase at a local Marriott property. Sharing my Marriott Gold status (automatic with Brilliant card) & member number was necessary when I was initially told to try online. Transaction was ~3 days after card anniversary, credits posted 3 days later.

My previous follow-up comment posted & then disappeared without a trace. Short version: all 3 credits stacked with one purchase at a local Marriott where I was not a guest.

And to follow up on the FNA:
I downgraded to the SPG/Bonvoy personal card shortly after Lux/Brilliant AF posted, prorated $450 AF refunded & prorated $95 AF charged. 50k FNA was deposited in my Marriott account 2 card statements after AF posted.

Another DP, for P2 with an upgraded Brilliant card:
10 months after upgrade, 2nd $300 Marriott credit posted after card account anniversary, for a Marriott eGC. Note that this use of the credit is not excluded from the Brilliant T&C, though as expected it did not trigger the $50 off $250 AO saved on the card. Pleasantly surprised to find it did earn 6x points as a Marriott purchase.

My renewal is in April and I still received this offer. I think it just has to do with when you applied for or converted your card to the Brilliant.
