Our Verdict

The standard offer is currently 60,000 points, but it’s been possible to get a match to the 80,000 bonus since that 80k bonus disappeared. 100,000 points is the highest bonus we’ve ever seen on this card by 20,000 points (although keep in mind you need to pay the $49 annual fee in the first year). If I was targeted for this offer, I’d be jumping on it. Not sure how they are targeted people, doesn’t seem to be on a elite status though. If you were targeted, let us know some information about yourself so we can see if we can work it out. I doubt Chase/IHG will match people to this offer, unless they received the targeted offer – but let’s wait and see.

  1. Elias says:

This is a great offer! Almost 2 nights at any IHG hotel or 23 nights at a pointbreak hotel!

    100,000 + 5,000 +2,000 + 10% = 117,700 points

And this card is a keeper my wife and I both have a card and I have used the free night at IC’s from $400s to $200s

  2. tianpox says:

$49 is not waived first year

  3. Bob says:

How to get matched for 80k bonus? Please explain

  4. Boon says:

I don’t think the A/F is waived, my 80k email explicitly states it is waived in the same place the fee is mentioned here.

  5. Vik says:

I received the offer thru email today. Will go for it.

  6. Cheapblackdad says:

Targeted. Hardly ever stay at IHG. It’s been years. Literally don’t remember when or where.

I Booked 2 stays across September and October for work. Total of 3 nights. Got the offer via email today.

  7. Justin Pope says:

The 80k (targeted?) bonus is still out there – the details you can view here:
For me, I can log into my IHG account (note: have gold status left over organically earning last year, no stays this year) and there’s a banner ad that takes you there. If I open that link in incognito, it says offer is expired when you go to apply.

With dummy booking, it also adds a different offer for bonus 50 statement credit (still annual fee waived, and 80k + 5k AU points).

    • Yup, it’s highly targeted. That’s the offer people have been matching to.

      • Justin Pope says:

Well then, I’d been eyeing this as an upcoming deal for a while, so just pulled the trigger. Applied for a pre-approved Citi card 2 days ago, hopefully won’t cause problems. *fingers crossed*

For non-luxury hotels it seems rather nice. There’s a 10k/night hotel (right next to a 20k/night hotel) a few miles from my parent’s house in San Antonio, both normally $100. For things like visiting the folks where I’m not overly picky about the hotel, seems like it can be about $900 for $1000 spend.

This card’s always felt somewhat undervalued to me by the community. Just sharing my personal valuation – for a long while I felt the expected value of this card would have been much lower for me personally.

    • zMay says:

Can you share the link for 80k + $50 statement credit? All i got with a dummy reservation is 60k+$50
      Thank You.

  8. jnrfalcon says:

This is like the old 80k status point offer only you won’t get Spire anymore. But you got an additional 5k which were not available. So just a so so historical high

  9. John says:

I applied for this card in 2013 but cancelled in march 2016. Am I eligible for the bonus again now? I am targeted for the 100k and I do not have elite status.

  10. Brandon says:

How do you check to see if you are targeted? Log into your IHG account?

  11. Randy says:

I have this card currently and received the bonus over 2 years ago. If I cancel today (hypothetically), when could I apply again?

  12. zMay says:

So last month i got the 60k+$50 statement credit. I got the credit but i still havent spent the 1k for the 60k bonus points. Can i be matched for the 80k? Hwo should i call?

    Thank You.

  13. Will says:

I was denied under the 5/24 rule, a few months ago, I believe this card now is included in the 5/24….

  14. zMay says:

I’ve asked for a point match and I got this answer: “zmay, we would like to explain that the $50.00 statement
credit and 80,000 Reward Point offer is only available
when applying for instant credit while booking an IHG
hotel reservation online. Regrettably, we are unable to
honor your request and issue the additional points to the
account since the specific reservation path was not used
for this offer. However, if you wish to have the $50.00
statement credit re-billed to the account, we would then
be able to add the additional 20,000 reward points to
match the 80,000 reward point?s offer without a statement

I don’t see any “reservation path” in the offer details. I got the $50 credit on a non-hotel purchase.

    What should I do? Advice?

  15. Trinidad says:

My personal experience on Saturday 10/15/16:
I did not receive the targeted offer, and after trying several workarounds suggested on this blog & others like booking a dummy hotel, I was still only offered 60k. So I called IHG Rewards to see if they might honor it. The answer was no, however they passed me to Chase’s call center which happened to be in the Philippines. The nice woman on the phone informed me that the best she could locate in her system was 80k with the 1st year $49 fee waived. I jumped on that offer, applied by phone (WAYYY over the 5/24 – probably about 10+/24) and was instantly approved with a 25k limit. I also applied that same evening for a targeted AMEX Business platinum (100k with $10k spend, all other benefits the same as the public offer) and was also instantly approved.

  16. Jcm says:

I requested a match to 80K today and they turned me down. Bummer.

  17. PC says:

I have received the 100k email offer multiple times. The link has an issue, when you try to apply, it will not let you fill in your First name! so the application process does not go through. I have tried calling IHG, Chase, email, Twitter etc… nobody knows about the offer and they cannot use the Invitation #/code to apply over the phone. I’m hesitant to apply for the 60k offer and then end up wasting time to match the 100k offer. If anybody was successful please let me know. I have tried multiple browsers and computers but no luck 🙁

  18. PC says:

Success! I received the email a few times and did not want to give up because of the broken link/webpage. I used Chase SM to get a confirmation from them that they will match the offer if I get approved. I was directed to use the 60k offer from their website. If you call IHG, you can get the 80k offer over the phone. I wanted the 100k and I think $49 for 20k points is a good deal. I applied for the 60k offer, kept in touch with them. Called them back after I hit the $2k spend. The SM is a better option to get things done. I also received a letter by mail to Fax my invitation #. I did that also. Finally, after the first statement was generated, I have over 100k points in my IHG account!! I don’t know why I was targeted but the closest I can think of is a hotel reservation at Kimpton about a year ago. This was for business travel.

    • Reddit says:

Hey PC, thanks for sharing your experience.

Is it possible to give more details as to what steps you’ve taken for someone who has not been targeted and needs to recreate the scenario.

What IHG # did you call to have them generate the 100k offer and what wording did you use in your request? Any detailed step by step info would be great!
