Our Verdict
Obviously the grocery store bonus will be more attractive to most people but unfortunately you don’t get to choose which bonus you receive.
Hat tip to reader Erikas
I got the grocery stores et. al. offer on two Thank You Preferred cards (mine and my wife’s). I spent a little over $500 in one purchase on each card (you can guess what I bought), and was surprised to see that I got 5x on the entire amount, including the part over $500.
Anyone know if this will work for IKEA as “Home Furnishings”? Not sure if IKEA falls under “discount” or “supercenter” stores which are excluded…
I got a similar offer back in July on my Thank You Preferred but not this one. Maybe they’re targeting people that didn’t get it in the first round.
My offer is 5x in online purchases, not bad…
On my Citi Double Cash Card I got get 5% cash back up to $25 now throught 11/30/20 at restaurants, including outside dining, curbside pickup, and delivery; movie theaters; and show theaters.
On my Citi DoubleCash card I got “an extra 4% cash back”, which I took to mean the existing 2% + 4% = 6% total, maybe I’m interpreting that wrong. Capped at “$25”, which I assume means $25 “cash back”. On gas, car rentals, hotels. Not super-exciting but I’ll take it.
exact wording: “You already earn 2% cash back on purchases: 1% as you buy and 1% as you pay. Now for a limited time, enroll in this special offer and earn an additional 4% cash back, up to $25, on eligible purchases…”
that’s clearly 6% back ($625 total spend to max out $25 bonus).
Just rechecked my offer and it said an additional 5%. Does that mean I get 2% + 5% = 7%?
WTF knows. It’s Citi. I’ll take it and see if I can figure out their math after the fact.
After seeing this I got excited when I saw an e-mail alert about my Double Cash card. But it was just a dumb email telling me about the card. No extra deal.
Got it via snail mail. Said “Extra 4% cash back” on the paper, but “extra 5%” online.
i got offered 4% bonus which stacks with 2% dcb (up to $25, until 11/30/20) at restaurants and theaters
William Charles Got a letter from Citi yesterday:
Earn 5 ThankYou® Points per $1 spent, up to 2,500 points, through 11/30/2020 when you use your Citi ThankYou® Preferred Card to pay bills in these categories:
• Phone • Internet • Insurance Providers
Seems like Deja Vu, since P2 got a similar offer on Chase Freedom a couple of months ago. Citi, trolling, seeing who bites. Chase offer was better as there was only a required number of transactions.
My offer included a “shopping” category which seems pretty broad. (Thank You Preferred)
Use your card to earn 5 ThankYou® Points per $1 spent, up to 2,500 points, through 11/30/2020 on eligible purchases¹ like:
Shopping: including online purchases made at your favorite retailer’s website
Groceries: including curbside pickup and online orders
Gas Stations
Travel and more!
Offer excludes restaurants, entertainment, cable and streaming purchases.
I got 5x online for an AA Plat, same $2500 cap
I got the second of the offers but when I click activate, it goes to an error page. I’m in Mexico right now so I’ll try it when I get home.
Try logging out of Citi on the browser you’re using. I had the same problem but once I logged out then I clicked the link and it worked. Not sure why…
