[Expired] [Targeted] Plastiq: Pay 1% Fee on Three Scheduled Payments with Mastercard

Deal has expired, view more Plastiq deals by clicking here.

The Offer

Targeted offer, no direct link (check your emails for subject “1% Plastiq fee on Mastercard payments”)

  • We noticed that you haven’t used a Mastercard recently to make your payments, so we’d like to make you a special offer: Schedule three payments in a row with a Mastercard (up to $2,000 each) and benefit from a low 1.0% Plastiq fee – up to a $90 value.

The Fine Print

  • Promotion is available only to direct recipients of this email notifying them of their eligibility and cannot be combined with other Plastiq promotions. This promotion is not-transferable.
  • Payments must be made with a Mastercard credit card, associated with this email recipient’s account, and must not exceed $2,000 per transaction. Promotion can only be redeemed once per account.
  • Three (3) payments must be scheduled before 11:59 PM EST on May 31, 2019, as a series. You are permitted to schedule as many payments as you like, however, this promotion discount will only apply to the first three payments within the series.
  • Low Plastiq 1.0% fee will be applied automatically when the payment is processed.
  • The last payment must be processed by 11:59 p.m. EST on August 31, 2019.
  • Plastiq fee free dollars (FFDs) cannot be applied towards payments with a 1.0% Plastiq fee or lower.
  • Editing, altering, rescheduling, or canceling any of the scheduled payments in the series will forfeit the promotional fee discount.
  • This promotion does not apply to any scheduled payments submitted before 12:01 a.m. EST on May 13, 2019.
  • Plastiq reserves the right to cancel or modify the promotion at any time.

Our Verdict

I got this one and lots of readers sent it in as well. It’s apparently meant for those who haven’t made payments with Mastercard in a while, though some people who have made Mastercard payments got it as well. Overall it could amount to a $90 savings (it’s 1.5% savings on up to $6,000) or just a cheap way to produce some credit card spend to pay bills.

See our Plastiq review here. If anyone is signing up for a new Plastiq account, please use our Plastiq referral link. You’ll get $500 in free processing after you process $500 in paid processing (or, through May 31, get $10,000 in free processing if you signup as a business and process $10,000).

Anyone know if using a Bank of America card will code as an “online shopping” for 3% cash back? Paying rent and trying to decide between:

(1) Bank of America Cash Rewards
(2) Citi Double Cash
(3) Citi Rewards+

Not eligible for preferred rewards

Thought I would try a test payment using my BoA Cash Rewards card, as I was also curious about the potential for 3% “Online Shopping.” Was quickly reminded by their system that this card can no longer be used on Plastiq. Perhaps you have a MasterCard variety, but mine’s a VISA.

No that’s against their terms. You might get lucky and get one through but they generally will ask for an invoice. You could fake it but if it’s not a real business invoice they will likely cancel the payment. You can pay your HELOC using a mastercard and then just pay off the credit card from the HELOC. Great for mastercard MSRs….

Its fee free to join and no inactivity fee either. Watch doc not just for these % off offers, but also the FFD offers that come up once in a while.

Not sure if it is working properly, but when I try paying with barclay AA biz mc card, it is still charging me 2.5 percent.

I emailed them about this and they claimed that if you meet the terms it will be adjusted when the payment was sent. When I tried to schedule it showed the 2.5%, which is what prompted my reaching out to them. Are other people seeing 1% when scheduling the series payment?

While it says only once per account in the fine print I am guessing if your payment is less than 2K you could do multiple until reaching 2K total…as I did 2 separate series the sum of both being less than 2K and it applied only 1% fee to both. Hope it holds though as this company is known to “clawback”.

It’s actually a 1% fee on each of the three scheduled payments, and the payment amount can be up to $2,000 each ($6,000 total).

Ok maybe I misunderstood the terms then as $90 max discount per Plastiq account.
I went back and scheduled more payments to different recipients with a scheduled series < 2K each payment but the sum total of payments close to 20K and all of it is charged only1%. This in indeed a good offer if this was what they meant it to be.

Tried this tonight but only had 1% for 3 payments (weekly), when I tried again it was 2.5%

Looks like it was a glitch that has already been fixed now even for me though the payments I already scheduled appear to still show as 1%. Anything newer that I try to setup does show 2.5%. Not sure if it was all payments attempted in the first login session or if it was that they noticed it and cut it off.

@DOC and Others,

What MC do you recommend using these days? Most of spend goes on Visa nowadays with the except of Citi AT&T Access More, but I don’t think that’ll work on this one.
