Our Verdict

It’s officially targeted, might work for everyone in practice. Nice little addition of $5 on top of the regular portal earnings. Remember to activate the offer first.

Same. TCB is an absolute waste. It’s the only portal I’ve had consistent tracking issues and CS refuses to do anything about it. Just use Ebates; much higher tracking rate and it transfers to Amex MR.

I recommend never putting items in the cart first before tracking from TCB. I did this for years and thought that TCB didn’t track. Recently found that hidden below the cashback terms of nearly every merchant on TCB in the “What else is essential” drop down it says “You must start with an empty basket before clicking through to the retailer.”

Since then everything I’ve purchased has seemed to track and then been paid including Amazon purchases which I never got paid for before despite many transactions.

This might be obvious to others but wasn’t to me.

I have found a few times that Topcashback support is pretty helpful. It takes them a while but they usually restore missing cash back, just be polite and patient.

The more obvious thing is that this doesn’t explain the difference in many people’s experiences with TCB and other portals.

It is rather unlikely that folks having trouble with TCB always put items in cart before using the portal only when using TCB, but otherwise use portal before putting items in cart when using other portals.

A few more things that we always recommend to our members is to clear all of the cookies on their browser before clicking through to our site, making sure there is no adblock software installed, and also once they are on the page not to click out and start new as this could affect tracking as well. I do all the usual things like start a new session, not use multiple tabs, not adding to the cart beforehand, not having ad-block on, not using non-listed coupons, etc., and still tcb only tracks some of the time. Apparently merchants can just decline your claim due to you supposedly using “another marketing channel.” /insert eyeroll

Bought a couple of pillows from Walmart.com before Christmas. Obviously this is in the bedding section but they didn’t track like that through eBates for some reason. 1% vs 10% which is a big difference. I e-mailed support who gladly added the extra cash back to my account as a courtesy. With TCB I wouldn’t have gotten anywhere. In fact, I’m still waiting on cash back from a Best Buy purchase made December 4th to show as confirmed. Just tried to open a ticket and their system won’t even let me.

Am I the only one who’s pro Topcashback?

Yes, their customer services are crap but they do try their best. My last bonus didn’t track so I open a support ticket. I thought it was an easy request since the promotion was their promotion but they told me to wait 14 days. 14 days later the bonus posted.

Yes, sometimes your purchases don’t track. I think this is more operator error than anything else. Read the fine print for each retailer. Some retailer wants you to start with an empty cart. Some retailer doesn’t want you to use any discount codes at checkout. Some retailer has exclusions or items that do not earn cashback.

Yes, sometimes your missing cashback claims take forever to resolve if it gets resolved at all. I still have three claims open from 11 months ago. What I learned is if a retailer doesn’t want to pay me for their cashback, then I won’t use them again.

Their Highest Cashback Guarantee is awesome. So far all my claims have been resolved in less than 24 hours.

Their VGC payout usually gives a bonus of 5%. Sometimes when they have a promotion you can get a 6% or 7% bonus. Their virtual VGC payout takes 1 business day to process. I have not had any delay in payout since day 1 of using TCB.

Top Cashback has mostly been excellent. Whenever a purchase doesn’t track, I immediately file a claim for missing cashback. It takes a long time, but it’s usually resolved in my favor. When it isn’t, they explain the company’s records don’t show I went through Top Cashback. I’m familiar with the problem of leaving things in your cart if you haven’t gone through Top Cashback — that’s how all the sellers do it. You have to go through Top Cashback before beginning the ordering process.

I and my wife used our TCB accounts to buy $15+ items at Walmart.com last Friday and Saturday. It did take about 48 hrs to get the “Order tracked” email. In the fineprints, TCB does say tracking for the Spend-$15-Get-$5 will take longer to track.
