U.S Bank announced today, Monday that they’ll again be running their Olympics promotion for their FlexPerks Travel Rewards Visa Signature card and their FlexPerks Business Edge Travel Rewards Visa card. New applicants will receive the usual 20,000 FlexPoints and you’ll also receive bonus points for every medal won by Team USA at the Rio Summer Olympics which will take place August 5 – 21.
The Offer
- Apply for the FlexPerks Travel Rewards Visa Signature card or the FlexPerks Business Edge Travel Rewards Visa card and receive a 20,000 Flexperks points signup bonus after spending $2,000 within four months
In addition to the 20,000 points signup bonus, you’ll also get another bonus based on the number of medals won by Team USA at the Rio Olympics:
- 200 Flexperks points for each Gold Medal
- 100 Flexperks points for each Silver Medal
- 50 Flexperks points for each Bronze Medal
To put these numbers into perspective: historically, during past Summer Olympics, Team USA has won in the area of 40 Gold medals, 30 Silver medals, and 26 Bronze medals. If those numbers would materialize this time, you’d get an extra 12,300 Flexperks for a total signup bonus of 32,300.
See the latest medal count at teamusa.org.
The 20k bonus + Olympic bonus offers are valid from August 1, 2016 through September 3, 2016. This is odd since the Olympics will be over by them so if you’ll already know exactly how many points you’ll be getting which somehow seems weird.

Our Verdict
This promo is back again (here’s the last time around), and even a lower-than-usual spend threshold of $2,000 to get the 20,000 Flexperks bonus. Great to see that the bonus Olympics offer is valid on a business Flexperks card as well.

As @esthery points out in the comments, it’s possible to refer a friend for Flexperks cards. Make sure to include your friend’s FlexPoints number on the application in the “Referring Friend’s FlexPoints #” field. Don’t use a referral link if you want the Olympic bonus credit.

If it goes ahead
Bumping this old thread… My annual fee should post next statement. Anyone have any tips on getting it waived? I spent my last ~2550 points on an Amazon gift card using Real Time Rewards. (Trick to get around the $50 redemption minimum.) It wasn’t worth it to me to save 3500 points for second year annual fee. Any chance I’ll get them to waive it?
If you have a “Platinum Checking Package”, you get the fee waived for the 2nd year automatically. Showed up on my CC statement as “Platinum Pkg 2nd Year Fee Waive”.
I qualify as “All current and former members of the Armed Forces are eligible to choose any consumer checking account with no monthly maintenance fee or minimum balance required.”
Thanks, Gadget. I have a “Gold” checking account, which is fee free because I have a USBank credit card! The “Platinum” is:
“No monthly maintenance fee with… $25,000 in combined personal deposits, investments* and/or credit balancesFootnote 14 – OR – A relationship with U.S. Bank Personal Trust Services”
Not gonna work for me.
[This is a cross-post with the 150/50 Checking account bonus page as it affects both]
I opened a checking account under the $150 bonus deal (got the bonus) and then later opened a FlexPerks visa under the Olympics Promo, not expecting to be eligible for the $50 credit since I was applying using the Olympics links and the general thinking is double dipping on signup bonuses wouldn’t occur.
I got the 14,800 Olympics Bonus points on the FlexPerks Visa last month (its wasn’t tied to spending, just opening the account) and have been expecting to get the standard 20,000 pt signup bonus (I passed the $2K spend requirement in this, my current billing period) when my statement closes on December 19.
Today I got a $50 statement credit on this FlexPerks Visa, and the only thing I can think it relates to is the Checking/CC signup bonus promo, which I wasn’t expecting to get.
My only fear now is that this will somehow affect my 20K FlexPerks bonus that I am expecting in 6 days for 2 reasons: 1) can I get both bonuses? I hope so since I already got the Olympics portion of my FlexPerks bonus, and 2) the $50 bonus credited to my account has brought be below $2000 in total spend … IF it affects how they count total spend.
Feeling like I need to spend another $44 to get back up above $2K for this Visa when considering the $50 bonus.
finally got my olympics points. 14k of them.
got olympics pts finally…will be about 1.8c/pt after factoring in $25 allowance…for one of the flights.
not bad at all….
Same! Thanks for updating this thread. I kept coming back here to check and see if the bonus started hitting for others.
My Olympics Bonus posted with yesterday’s statement closing (11/15) even though I haven’t met my minimum spend for the standard 20K signup bonus (I still have about 25 days left before my “four months” ends so no worries there.
Hum. My signup bonus posted after my first statement closed (10/24), but no Olympics bonus yet. I applied on the last day of the promo.
My Olympics bonus posted today, so now I have all of the bonus points. Thanks!
DP-
My bonus posted 11/1. The entire bonus (20k plus Olympic points) posted at the same time, and I finished the minimum spend on the second statement.
I got approved for the card while I was out of the country and so wasn’t able to make my first purchases until 9/30. The US Bank website is showing the purchases posting on 10/3 though. Any thoughts on whether this will be an issue with me getting the Olympics bonus?
My Olympics bonus posted this week despite my first purchase not posting until 10/3. 🙂
