Uber Offers Is Back, Rebranded As Visa Local Offers (Get 10% Back In Uber Rebates) [Officially Announced & Open To More Areas]

Update: Uber has officially announced the rerelease of Uber offers. I suspect this means it will be available in more cities/areas now. As always if it’s available to you then please let us know in the comments so we can update our list.

In August of 2016 Uber launched Uber Offers, this allowed you to link a Visa card and get a 10% Uber rebate at select merchants. When they updated the app in late 2016 this was removed. They have now added it back and it shows up as ‘Visa Local Offers’. You do need to opt in to be part of this new program and it’s not available to everybody/all regions. Here’s how to opt in:

  • Make sure you have a Visa card added in your payment profile
  • Click settings
  • Click Visa Local Offers
  • Click Count Me In

The program is basically the same, except that you don’t need to opt in to each business to receive the 10% Uber rebate. Any Visa card that is attached to your Uber profile will be eligible. Each merchant also has their own fine print, but gift card purchases at some locations seem to be working fine. No longer true (although doesn’t look to be enforced at all). Make sure you also use a card that earns at a high rate on whatever category your purchasing from (e.g restaurant/grocery)

  1. Geo says:

My account is registered in Seattle and I was able to join Visa Local Offers.

Note that you must have a Visa card linked to the Uber account in order for this to work. I usually use Amex and it wouldn’t let me join. After I added my CSR, it gave me the confirmation “You’re In!”

  2. Hari Krishnan says:

I live in Chicago and I too got this for the very first time now.

  3. Jesse Conklin says:

    worked for me. Boston

  4. nonimmigranth1b says:

I am in Chicago and see the option but I can not add any Visa card as payment.

  5. Jeff says:

Not working in New York City as of today.

  6. Jeremy says:

Not working with a CSP on my account in DFW.

  7. SYC says:

    Not available in MSP

  8. E* says:

I’m in SF, not working for me nor most of my friends. So sad 🙁 hope 10% doesn’t die before it gets to me, I could definitely use some uber credits!

  9. Rexx says:

Not seeing it in Philadelphia. My app last updated a week ago.

    • Rexx says:

Update: I’m seeing it now in Philly. The app didn’t update though, so they must have flipped a switch on the server. I think when I looked before I was in the burbs, now I’m in the city, not sure if that makes a differences.

Also of note, the calibre of restaurants and bars on the list is significantly better than Mogl or Rewards Network. The downside to this is I barely see any double dip opportunities

  10. Chris says:

It is available for me in Miami! I selected it, my visa card appeared, and it shows me walgreens and about 95% of restaurants in my area as eligible for 10% credit.

  11. slighooker says:

    Worked in Cincinnati

  12. Eric says:

In San Francisco area and I had the offer on my account even though I did not have a Visa card linked as a payment option. When I activated the offer it forced me to add a Visa card. I routinely get Uber emails offering discounts on rides while I know many in the same area who never get emailed discounts and don’t have this Visa offer on their account.

  13. DaWoodMan1 says:

In Las Vegas, with 2 Visas on my account, personal + business profiles, and no Visa Local Offers option available… sad

  14. Dean says:

What if I am visiting SF or Seattle? Would the app adjust for the location and let me in?

  15. Bryce says:

I got it working in Orange County, though my account is registered in Utah so I’m not sure which applies here.

  16. James says:

Charlotte is working for me; have my CSR registered

  17. DeauxBois says:

    Worked for me in Tampa.

  18. V says:

works in DC. unfortunately all the 10% offers end today. supposedly started in 7/1 but didn’t see these offers til a recent update less than a week ago

also should note that if you have one visa card tied to multiple uber accounts (parents/partner/siblings), the latest person to activate the offers gets the uber credit when the one card is swiped at a participating location

  19. JA says:

Honolulu! Valid July 1-July 31. Last day? Is it expiring anywhere else?

  20. Jonna says:

It works for me in the LA area!

  21. Mitchell says:

    Works for Phoenix

  22. Jeff says:

Now working in NYC as of today, 8/2

  23. neels says:

I got it in San Diego

  24. kzyu says:

    Works for Philly.

  25. Jeremy says:

    It appears DFW was added.

  26. Chris says:

    Works in philly

  27. blue9 says:

    Now available in Atlanta

  28. AC says:

I’m in New York and I got it as well

  29. K says:

It’s in Winston Salem as well

  30. Logan says:

Any DPs on whether this works with internet transactions, for example from or

  31. Peter says:

Don’t know if this is common knowledge, but yesterday I was at Walgreens and needed cash back so I bought something small and did $20 cash back on my Chase Debit (which I added to my Uber account as I was about to check out). A few minutes later I get a message that I got Uber Credit, 10% of the total $2X.XX. Seems like a way to get a free $2 in Uber credit on every Walgreens purchase

  32. mickey says:

@peter, this does not work. Mainly because you would have to use your card as debit enter pin and then ask for cashback. Then the txn wont be routed the same way as a credit txn and you will get 20$ from register but the txn doesnt get any uber credit cashback.
I tried it yesterday and it did not work. Used chase debit

    • Liz says:

It worked for me doing it this way. Bought 2 sodas for $3 plus tax, got $20 back, got $2.32 in Uber credit. Using USAA debit card.

  33. Steve says:

    Works in Denver!

  34. Brandon says:

I had this activated for a few days, worked at a local Whole Foods however it does not appear to be an option on my app now. I’ve gone through every menu and don’t see it any longer. I’m in Virginia Beach and have been.

Any thoughts? I’m guessing since it updated that it’s no longer valid?

  35. Glenn says:

Given that so many of the local offers are restaurants, you might want to specifically recommend people add their Freedom VISA cards this quarter for 5X UR from Freedom AND 10% Uber Credit.

  36. LeoM says:

I’m registered in Livermore, CA and it now shows on my account as well (used to show only when I got closer to San Francisco before). I don’t think it’s linked to the account location but to the current location your phone is in.

  37. Chris says:

    Worked in San Jose, CA

  38. GL says:

    It’s in Cleveland OH too!

  39. Peter says:

I’d love if Visa simply offered Local Offers unaffiliated with Uber (like SavingsEdge but for every Visa). Not interested in Uber credit since I don’t use their product (and would not use it for free).

  40. Kyle says:

    It works in Columbus, OH.

  41. Best Poke says:

    Works in Phoenix, AZ

  42. Grant says:

I was in Minneapolis, MN last weekend and it worked there too 🙂

  43. Joseph says:

works in Detroit! Used it several times!

  44. VM says:

Its was on my account this morning but i didnt sign up. I am based in NYC.

I am not to thrilled about the terms that state Uber can see details off my transaction at the merchant. I am ok with merchant name shared, but the trnsaction detail is going bit too far for me.

  45. Peter S says:

Dont know if this is promotional rate or not. It is too lucrative. Using 5x freedom on restaurant = 15% back. Restaurant selections are very good. Using 5X Ink Cash at Staples = 15% back. I really hope this sticks around

  46. ice_corner says:

A couple of days ago tried to use it at Whole Foods with Hyatt credit card. Thought this might combine with Hyatt 20 off 50 offer. Got the 20 statement credit, but did not get the Uber credits. Not combinable with other offers I suppose?

  47. Jeremy says:

Not showing on my account. Los Angeles.

  48. cheddarpants says:

    available in louisville

  49. Joe says:

Checked this morning and is now available in St. Louis

  50. Scott says:

    Available in Pittsburgh too

  51. Luke says:

    San Antonio, TX

Checked last night (10:45 pm CST) and didn’t show option to enroll under settings, so I tried sending a message asking how to sign up and they responded asking me to elaborate, so I don’t expect that changed anything.

However, when I checked this morning (6:45 am CST) after reading their message, the option to enroll was in the Settings menu as instructed on their website!

I did not make any changes to my account, the only difference was timing.

  52. Brad says:

It is working in Fort Worth, Texas

  53. Jason says:

I can also confirm that it’s working in San Diego, CA as well$

  54. infiniteidealist says:

It’s working for Sacramento, CA. I just added a Visa card this morning.

  55. ChennaiSuperKing says:

Working in San Antonio, TX as well.

  56. Raj says:

I am in Los Angeles and it works for me.

  57. TomC says:

The local gastropub is part of Uber Offers, Reward Network, and Yelp Cash Back. So, my Friday dinner was 80 bucks with tip and taxes.

    Yelp @ 7% = $5.60
    Uber @ 10% = $8.00
    Alaska Mileage Dinner @ 5x = 400 x 1.9¢ mile value = $7.60

    Total Bonus Value = $21.10

Basically, the 3 IPAs were free.

  58. Hiima says:

Tried getting mgc at staples during rebate period and didn’t get uber credit.

  59. Harlan V. says:

    Just added it in Austin

  60. Arun says:

Works in Portland, OR too! Got 10% off Whole Foods today!

  61. SomeDude says:

    Available in Delaware

  62. Ricky.Z says:

Anyone tried if Apple/Samsung pay will trigger this credit? My experience is no, at least for my BoA card.

  63. Erin says:

Worked for me in Providence, RI

  64. Unclesam says:

How do you look up the merchants offering the Visa local offer?

  65. sonia says:

do the uber credits we earn through this expire? I don’t see it listed anywhere

  66. Jig says:

Has anyone actually received and seen the credits after enrolling? If so,

    1. does the credit show up immediately or after some period?
    2. do you get a notification?
    3. where do you see the credits available in the app?

Personally, have had no success getting the actual credits despite having enrolled and using the visa card on the account at identified merchants.

    • Chaser123 says:

      1) immidietaly
      2) I get a pop up from uber app as soon as I swipe.
      3) Under payment options – no detail, but I sometimes see awards under messages.

      • Jig says:

Thanks! I wonder if it has something to do with me adding new cards to my account AFTER opting in, and using those newer cards at eligible places

  67. Chaser123 says:

This has been working with GC’s from my local supermarket. I am amazed by the list of shops and restaurants. There are many that I use without the bonus. Some of NYC’s best restaurnts are also on the list. I am a heavy uber user, this is a huge savings. It is also cutting down my used gift card purchases, as places I go to lunch are on the list. Now I use my cash+ card, usually 5% or 2% plus I get the uber 10%.

  68. Ray Williams says:

Is there an overall cap of $100? I got to $100, but any transactions beyond that are not triggering the Uber Credit.

    • Eric says:

I got about 150 out of this. But it appears I’m shut down too. I’m assuming you’re doing the war method as well.

      • Unclesam says:

I am curious about the the WAR method. Also, the only The only stores on the list that sell GC are Staples and Walgreens but I read in one of the comments that Staples did not earn the credits. Also, both stores T&C say it is capped at $20 per purchase.

        • Chasewr123 says:

Staples doesnt work for me either, but my supemarket does. Also capped at $20 but to me its a great deal when I use a 3.5% supermarket cash back plus 10% uber. My list of stores does change (or drop off). Not great for visa gift cards but I will fill my cart to $200 with variable amazon cards.

        • Eric May says:

I am not sure why I said WAR method. That was a typo, my method prior to “shutdown” was 100$ cashback via a debit card at WF. I was able to generate about 150$ worth of uber credit this way within about 5 days. I tried after my shutdown at QT (paying inside rather than at the pump for gas) and was able to trigger an immediate credit. For other users, I know the cashback method is still working at WF.

        • MontyFC says:

          What does WAR stand for?

      • Chuck says:

Exactly what do you mean “shutdown”. WF goes to at least End of September

  69. Chuck says:

Whole foods lets you take cash out and that adds to your toal. I.e. Max $100 cash out means $10 in uber credit. Its free money!!!!
I was able to take easily $100 per visit and some days two or three visits thus adding $20 or $30 per day to my uber credit. FREE MONEY!!!

  70. LeoM says:

    Stack with Drop? 🙂

  71. JR says:

Has anyone else gotten the message “There’s a Payment Issue. Sorry, we are unable to accept your card. Please try adding a different one.”?

I tried adding all of my Visa cards a few days ago but then it stopped me from adding more than four (as I recall). Then, when I tried to delete some of the Visa cards and replace them with others that’s when I got the message.

I added a Chase Ink Bold which is a Mastercard just fine as well as an AMEX so I know it’s not a bank issue. Seems like it is just completely blocking any Visas from being added regardless of bank or type (i.e. debit or credit). Any help would be great.

    • Chuck says:

I received a similar message last Saturday when trying to book a Uber:

“Request Failed Please choose a valid payment method”

For some reason I had to go in and select a card even though I have them in my account. Not sure if this was the issue you encountered. Uber was not helpful explaining why I am getting this.

      • JR says:

YMMV, but I was able to add the Visas via the UBEREATS app and not in the regular Uber app. When I re-launched the Uber app the Visas appeared. However, I was only able to add 3 Visas in the UBEREATS app before it gave me another alert that there was a problem.

  72. veeRob says:

Has anyone tried to buy GC’s at Walgreens, yet? My first GC purchase at Staples gave me cash back, but my second did not. Haven’t tried Walgreens though, curious if there’s data points…

  73. Chaser123 says:

Is there any way to track your visa offers credit on the app or website? Also, Can I assuem if I see the offers, I still qualify. It worked at first, no problem. Now it seems to turn on and off at will and appears and dispaears at random on my app. Even when I see the offers I have a 50% success rate now. This promotion has been super flaky for me. I did abuse it in the beggining with no issues. Mayby I am blacklisted. Lately, I have only been using it for legitimate spend, i.e. Dunkin Donuts. I do love the problem

  74. Eric says:

Nordstrom 20% back on my app. Max $20 reward per purchase. I’m in SF Bay Area.
