This is a blatant attempt to increase United app usage among the financially destitute college crowd. Not the worst idea.

“Tinder recently agreed to settle a $23 million class-action age discrimination lawsuit. The lawsuit, filed last April in California, alleged Tinder charged people over 30 years old twice the amount for its subscription services.”

I’m not sure if it is actually illegal to discriminate against customers for age like it is for employers, but it was enough for Tinder to settle.

They should just use “for students currently enrolled in an accredited university”

That is how you do age discrimination properly lol. Lots of places in EU seems to be free for 25-35? EU citizens or something like that.

Does this apply to award bookings or revenue flights only?

It is age discrimination, but I think age discrimination is only illegal when dealing with employment.

Even then, it’s only illegal to discriminate people over 40, and only if you’re favoring a younger person over an older person. For instance, it’s perfectly legal to hire someone who is 60 instead of someone who is 45 because of age, but illegal to hire someone who is 45 instead of 60 because of age.

Discrimination isn’t always bad (although the word is starting to have a negative connotation). For instance, it’s acceptable to discriminate based on job history or education – if you only want applicants with previous experience or a master’s degree, that’s fine.

Yup. The federal Age Discrimination in Employment Act (“ADEA”) only covers employment relationships and even then only protects individuals aged 40 and over.

Do you think senior discounts are age discrimination too?
