Use Amazon No-Rush Credits for Digital Downloads on Tax Software, Microsoft Office, Quickbooks, Quicken & More

Amazon no-rush shipping credits can be used for digital tax software purchases, Microsoft Office digital download, Quickbooks digital download and similar items. People usually use them for video rentals or the like, so I found it interesting to know that they can work on all digital downloads, especially now with tax season coming up. You’ll see it come off automatically at checkout when purchasing a digital download product.

Digital credits can be used for toward eligible Prime Video rentals or purchases, Kindle eBooks, Music downloads, or Amazon appstore apps. It used to be possible to use them on digital gift cards but that ended a while back.

It still works for all other digital downloads on Amazon. Here are some examples:

i think this deal is now dead.

“Rewards may not be used for the purchase of software subscriptions, gift cards, digital video games or memberships.”

But skip them and use TaxHawk.

Here’s the real protip if you’re struggling to use credits- open an Amazon kdp account, then put up your own ebook (some random word document you’ve written is just fine).

Then buy your own ebook with the credits. Yes they’ll take a 30% cut, but you were going to blow it on something dumb you didn’t really value at sticker price anyways.

The claim that using CK and similar services to prepare a return is “free” isn’t accurate. They don’t charge for using their services, but they get your juicy financial data and that certainly is worth something.

Since we’re on taxes, does anyone still do it by paper anymore? I find that’s the only way to get exactly what I want (my taxes are fairly — but not insanely — complicated). I used TurboTax one year and it really messed me up. I’m still tussling with the IRS over the tax year I used that.

What did TurboTax get wrong?

I use TurboTax but then I look at all the numbers it puts in the forms (and compare to the forms I filed last year), to check that they make sense. Sometimes I need to go back and answer one of TurboTax’s questions differently to get the forms filled out properly, but eventually I get the right answer.

a little off topic, but the $1 no rush credits seem paltry on some items where I know shipping is fairly expensive (large/heavy items). Sometimes I’m willing to wait for an extra week on an item, but often for only $1 its easier to just get it here and in my hand and I don’t have to worry about if its running late or whatever.

but if they offered, oh, $3 on some items i’d go for that.

Indeed, no rush has made me reevaluate my economic preferences.

I’ll often forego a $1 credit on a $10 item because I’d value a day or two of sooner use at more than a dollar. Which seems a little odd because the whole item is only $10. I guess it suggests I value the item at much more than $10

I suggest everyone looking into filing taxes with https://www.myfreetaxes.com/

It is completely free, federal, states, efile and best of all it simply redirects you to H&R Block and you actually are using only H&R block services

In prior years they were offering the same but had a $66k income limitation, this year is free for all levels of income.

This must be the winner this year when it comes to Software provider reputation, privacy(looking at you CreditKarma), coplexity of tax return inclusions and cost(free).

Ok, so here is the only limitation of free H&R Block: “MyFreeTaxes is completely free for individuals and families this year unless you need schedule C; Schedule D; or Schedule E”

Cases when it is not free in English:
Schedule C: you owe business
Schedule D: you sold stock in 2019(you do not need this if you simply bought and/or held stock in 2019)
Schedule E: you own a rental property business

I’d urge anyone who doesn’t use TurboTax or other specialty tax software for a specific feature (like importing large amounts of equity trades) to look into some of the free or dramatically cheaper options online. For years I’ve been using FreeTaxUSA without paying anything, while TT would want to charge me $90+ for filing a Schedule C.

Credit Karma Tax is nearly identical to TurboTax Deluxe and is free.

I use TT Deluxe and have never been charged for filing a Schedule C, D, SE, etc.
