Avoiding Fees
Monthly Fees
This account has a $7 monthly fee.
- Perform 20+ card transactions (Debit and/or credit)
- Be age 24 and younger, or age 60 and older
- Maintain an average daily balance of $10,000 in MyStyle Checking (LOL right, this is going to happen at 0% APY).
Early Account Termination Fee
Account previously needed to be kept open for six months, but doesn’t seem like that is the case any longer.
Our Verdict
Better than the $100 bonus previously offered, hopefully it’s still available in this many states. Worth doing if you’ve already done the larger bonuses available.

My eyes used to skip right over lines like that…
I need to do this one before I turn 25
Is this still using Experian? Any DPs with all 3 credit files frozen, or with only Equifax or Transunion unfrozen?
Ugh, I tried opening online just now with all 3 credit reports frozen and no go on approval when I submitted (this more than likely is the reason for denial). I’m sure they pulled Chex, but I unfortunately wasted a pull if they did. I have a branch near me in AZ, so I might stop by and try applying there directly than risk another Chex pull if they did pull one.
In my recent experience, it was a soft pull on Experian. I had Equifax and TU frozen.
OOS DP – I opened without difficulty the mandatory share savings and, at the time, a 5% Growth CD, about six months ago. I live in Florida. About two weeks ago I saw on their Facebook page a $150 offer with the same terms as the BYU one and decided to try it as it sounded less geo-fenced. The link is https://MACU.me/design. When it asked if I already was a member it had me log in to my account but you cannot open checking accounts from the online app, so I called them. They did proceed to open my account and applied the bonus code(designer150). The rep did tell me that she needed to check my Chex report but quickly came back with no questions. My Chex stats are LOL so I don’t think that she would have opened it if I didn’t already have accounts. I had accounts but only about $3K. So, if you’re out of state you may want to study their Growth CDs and perhaps open one first. Then in a few weeks try for the checking offer. Yes, the account has a $7 monthly fee but I’m a senior so the fee is waived. The included benefits are good. I discovered that I have essentially a free online Entertainment Book membership which includes local restaurants.
do you mean you opened the share savings while you were visiting Utah? then later opened the bonus account over the phone?
No, I was an OOS(Florida) applicant back in March. I remember trying online but something wasn’t working right, so they helped me by phone. They had me join the ACC and they paid any dues. I opened the $1 member share and put $10 in a “Growth” (add-on) CD. I was just trying to lock in the 5% rate they had back then.
BTW, they ran Chex in March when I was just doing the CD and ran Chex again recently when I opened the checking.
cool! Thanks for the datapoint.. I’m also from a nearby state as you and my fav states to visit are Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, so I might give this bonus a go
