What’s Going On With The Wells Fargo Propel World Card?

A few days ago a reader alerted me to the fact that the Wells Fargo Propel World Card was no longer listed on the Wells Fargo website. The application link redirects to their general credit card page, I reached out to readers to see if they could find a working link but nobody was able to (Wells Fargo Twitter team wasn’t very helpful, either).

I also reached out to their formal media team and they had this to say:

The card is still available – if someone wants to apply in the interim, they can visit a Wells Fargo store.

Natalie M. Brown, APR

Vice President, Consumer Lending Communications

Update: Reader VRHunter was also able to apply via the phone.

What’s interesting is that in the ‘leaked’ PDF that showed the new Wells Fargo Cash Wise credit card, the Propel World card is listed under ‘Affluent and High Net Worth’, alongside other cards that are by invitation only. There is a chance that they plan to transition this card to invite only as well and that’s why it was removed from the Wells Fargo website. There is also a chance they are making other changes/no changes at all and it’ll return soon.

The card itself is pretty good in the first year with a sign up bonus of 40,000 points (worth $400, one of the best cash sign up bonuses) and $100 in airline incidentals annually. It does come with an annual fee of $175, so doesn’t make a lot of sense to keep long term. Might be worth picking up if you haven’t already, especially if you combine it with the Wells Fargo $100 checking bonus that also requires an in branch sign up.

Let me know your thoughts/theories on what is happening with this card in the comments.

Glad I got the card about a month ago!

Just remember guys airline incidentals on an Amex means you can buy gift cards from the United MileagePlusX app and get those charges reimbursed.

This doesn’t work with visa and Mastercard.

I have already done the bonus twice and I was approved for my 3rd card. I have a feeling the churn was too easy.

Dear John,
So you mean you got bonus and close the card and reapply . if yes it was in specific time period?
Thank for suggestion.

WF have very lackluster credit card offering. I was denied few years ago for lack of relation and credit history with them. I tried to recon, the rep was rude and basically think I’m crazy.

I don’t have a Wells Fargo branch near me, but I was able to apply for the card just now over the phone. The rep confirmed the 40,000 point signup bonus with the $175 fee waived the first year so I’m confident it was the Propel *World* card rather than one of the other Propel cards.

What is the card in the bottom left of the picture? Looks like it says “Wells Fargo Bank by private invitation” but not sure.

Reverse engineered the prodCode from their other products. I was prepared to guess from AA-ZZ. First try worked. LMFAO.

Instant Approval as well! Thanks for finding the link!

@Marky Mark @YH

Does it show clearly the 40,000 point signup bonus on the application?

It shows the 40k on the second page. If you follow MarkyMark’s link and just click continue without filling in login info, it’ll go to page 2 where it shows the offer details.

Chuck

I see now, thanks

Sorry, my mistake.
They are different cards with a “World” of difference. 😉
