As part of the introduction of the three reward tiers costing 7,500-30,000 points per night, Wyndham has announced some additional changes:
- La Quinta hotels are now bookable with Wyndham points. Wyndham has previously acquired La Quinta for $1.95 billion previously and these have been bookable on the Wyndham website with cash but now they can be booked with points as well.
- U.S. and Canadian military members (active, reserve, veteran or retired status) now receive complimentary gold membership. After your first stay you’ll also earn 1,000 bonus points.
- Wyndham shopping portal has now launched. You can now earn up to 10x points when shopping at various retailers.
- Gas partnership with Marathon gas stations. Wyndham members will earn 2 points per gallon and will also receive 5¢ off per gallon. There will also be an option to redeem points for fuel starting at 3,000 points (10 cents¢ off per gallon for 100 gallons).
In addition in the next few weeks they will be adding the ability to earn points on tours and experiences and also points with DoorDash (250 points per order). Overall these are fairly small changes, the additional inventory from La Quinta will be useful but I doubt it will be most readers #1 choice. How useful the shopping portal will be will depend on how competitive it is, same with the gas discount.
I registered for the Marathon offer. 3,000 WR points gets you 10 cents off per gallon for 100 gallons. Terrible deal.
Gee that’s not good.
