Wife and I recently endured a very hard-sell time share pitch at a Wyndham Towers resort location in North Myrtle Beach area…. (happier preface, we’d snagged really nice side suites for just 15k a night for four nights — using up some of my rarely used, yet soon to expire Wyndham Rewards stash… To their credit, (the hotel itself) we were much impressed by safety measures — and the place itself, really well designed suites, so we could self-isolate most of the delightful stay.) Alas, at check-in, when we chirped it was our first stay at such a place, the near-at hand sales vultures were quick to pounce…. We were pulled aside and offered 45k to attend a presentation — 2 hours max we were assured…. We figured ah well, for 45k, we can endure 2 hours….. The presentation actually was TERRIBLE….. no videos (due to covid they said, oddly enough), just an intelligent, articulate, yet so under-dressed so and so doing (from six feet away) the “but wait, there’s more!” schtick…. Invest with us today and you’ll get all these other things! We were curious to see just what the bottom line pitch was….. never really heard it. 2.5 hours in, we finally got a price of $50,000 (sic — that was the low-end pitch — 100k for the super-duper whatever)…. We never did find out what exactly you get for the $50,000.00…. (such and such number of points — but really have no idea how much they’d be worth, when and where…. and all this before the never stated annual service contract fees) Wyndham timeshare treats you like complete utter imbeciles, that you’d be willing to fork over $50,000.00 just like that, without really having any understanding of what you’re getting! (oh, but they did have a financing option at ….. wait for it…. 17.99 percent interest!) Sad to think that there are hard-working folks so easily parted from their savings…. As we made clear, politely, yet firmly, that we weren’t interested, (closing in on the 3 hour mark) then the supervisor takes over…. straight out of central casting for a mob movie…. (we used to live in the poconos — know the type… yah, short tie, portly (to be kind), shirt hanging out, with the buzz cut from the early 60’s….. gruff, yet hard-ball pushy as could be…. along the lines of, what do we have to do to convince you numbskulls of how wrong you are in turning this once-in-a-lifetime offer down….??! Even as we were standing up to leave, he’s still talking, then starts dropping the price….. last we saw down to $28.000.00 (though apparently without all the long list of “but wait, there’s more!” schtick….) By then I didn’t care — and just wanted OUTTA THERE…. Saw another older working-class couple nearby with the husband quite literally explode in rage and anger….. To my surprise, my ordinarily ultra polite and patient wife hit the roof too….. first time I ever heard her get that… Read more »

Wish I’d seen Stephen Pepper’s superb post on this before going…. “Be Prepared to say No” https://frequentmiler.com/wyndham-timeshare-presentation-survival-guide-get-your-no-face-on/ (If we’d comprehended even half his tips before going in, we’d have been in and outta there so much quicker. 🙂 fyi to all.

This is a completely irresponsible suggestion during COVID. I’d retract this post. Nobody should be meeting face to face with a stranger for 2 hours. Come on. Hold yourself to a higher standard.

I cannot speak to Wyndham, but last month I sat through a pitch with Hyatt. The salesperson I was sitting with was about 6 feet away, we both had masks on the entire time, and there was a plexiglass shield between us. I am more strict than most people in terms of Covid related precautions, and I did not feel like this was irresponsible.

I think people are completely capable of taking of themselves. It’s just utterly ridiculous trying to make all our lives miserable with self righteous comments like this.

You realize Stvr this isn’t a CDC website? This is a blog on deals. Take it or leave. Let other folks communicate.

In 2018, we went for a Wyndham timeshare presentation in Honolulu. We were offered it during check in to a Wyndham hotel at Waikiki (not the timeshare one, just a regular one).
We got $100 Amex + 30.000 Wyndham points + free buffet breakfast. It was such a nice offer that I didn’t even try to negotiate 🙂
The presentation was nice (under 2 hours), just the last 15 minutes were uncomfortable when I had to explain 3 different presenters why the numbers don’t add up and that there is no business case for us.

I’ve done a few; just say that you travel for work and have more airline and hotel points than you could ever use. Done.
