[Expired] [YMMV] Amazon: Change Your 1-Click Settings To Discover & Get $10 Credit

Update 02/13/18: This is working again for a lot of people. It’s worth trying even if you’ve done the deal previously.

Originally posted 4/18/17. Reposting 9/3/17 with new link and expiration date. Many people have now been newly targeted. Reposting again on 02/04/18 as another link has been found. Thanks to reader AdamZ.

The Offer

Direct link to offer (our affiliate link, thanks for supporting the site)

  • Save $10 at Amazon when you change your 1-Click default payment method to an eligible Discover card

discover amazon

How To Get This Offer

  • Log into the Amazon app
  • Turn off 1 click settings if you have it enabled (change your card to something other than Discover first)
  • Keep refreshing the home page until the offer loads. You can also try closing/reopening the app.
  • Click the offer and follow the prompts

The Fine Print

  • This promotional offer applies to the purchase of eligible items made with a valid Discover Card. The $10 credit may be redeemed on the purchase of physical products sold and shipped by Amazon.com, and excludes gift cards, Kindle eBooks, instant videos, MP3s, and all other digital content and downloads.
  • An Amazon.com account with a valid Discover Card is required to claim and redeem this credit. If, for any reason, your Discover Card is inactive, denied, or ineligible, you will not be eligible to claim or redeem this credit. You are responsible for the final purchase price after the credit is applied, plus applicable taxes and shipping charges.
  • Credit must be redeemed by 11:59 p.m. PT on July 30, 2017 November 30, 2017. March 31st, 2018 Unredeemed credit will expire after that time. If any of the products purchased with the credit are returned, your refund will equal the amount you paid for the product, subject to applicable refund policies. Credit redeemed on a Kindle or Fire device will be applied to the Amazon.com account registered to the device.
  • This promotional offer is valid for a limited time only. Offer limited to one per customer and account. Amazon reserves the right to modify or cancel the offer at any time. If you violate any of these terms, the offer will be invalid, and the credit will not apply. This offer may not be resold, is nontransferable, not redeemable for cash, and is void where prohibited by law and in case of fraud. This offer may not be combined with other offers.
  • Offer available only to customers who were served an advertisement promoting the offer. To claim the offer, customer must first click through the ad and then complete the additional actions described.

Our Verdict

Looks like lots of people are targeted now either by using the direct link, above, or by using the app method outlined above. Don’t forget to stack this with other savings, including using a credit card that earns at a high rate on Amazon purchases and using the JetBlue portal for 3x points.

I think third-party physical gift cards would work to use up the $10 credit, maybe even third party electronic gift cards. Let us know if you try.

Man…I’ve been a Discover It holder for over two years and I never get targeted for these things. Who exactly are they targeting?

Darn it! Mine was already set to Discover. I generally like Discover, even though they’re not as competitive anymore, and they have the best customer service, but lately I’m getting a bit ticked off reading about offers I never get as well. I haven’t used the card for a few months, but was using it exclusively or quite a bit for many years in the past. In fact, I think it’s my oldest card.

Yeah… I’m a fan of Discover in general, and a holder of 20 years, and I used it exclusively for many of them, but I’m getting ticked off when seeing all kinds of offers I don’t get. I just checked and my default is currently Discover. Maybe I should change it and then I’ll get this offer. It’s pretty sickening when only new members are rewarded for everything, but nobody gives a rat’s patootie about loyal customers and they’re simply taken for granted.

There was hacks like https://slickdeals.net/f/8169164-get-10-off-at-amazon-com-for-discover-card-1-click-payment . Is there something similar this time?

Sorry, your request for this promotion is not eligible.

I have used Discover as default card for a while.

Also not eligible.

I wonder if it’s because of the following terms at the end, since we’re clicking through directly to the offer and not by way of an ad: “Offer available only to customers who were served an advertisement promoting the offer. To claim the offer, customer must first click through the ad and then complete the additional actions described.”

Originally failed after clicking through your link, but today I found the ad while browsing a random page. Clicked on it, changed my payment method to Discover, credit immediately applied. I guess you need to have a Discover card, but not have it as your 1-click method.

Evidently, it only works if you are invited. On one account (prime, already has Discover card on it) I was inundated with the promo (and happily used it) on a second account that I haven’t used in several years I got the message “Sorry, your request for this promotion is not eligible.” Definitely worth getting the $10. One little wrinkle to be aware of, on my first account I have a gift card balance. On two orders that said I would get the $10, when the payment defaulted to gift card balance, I didn’t get the promo. On the third try when I then paid with Discover, I DID get the promo.

Just want to say that I got this today from a banner ad on mobile, so this offer it still technically out there. Mine has an expiration of Nov 30 to use it.

Chuck

Thanks, I’ll repost

Got this from a mobile banner ad earlier this evening. Must be at least the second one I’ve gotten from Discover, and a few months ago I got my third one from Citi.

I’m not complaining, but they need to work on their targeting algorithms.

I’m targeted but actually can’t figure out what I want to buy that’s shipped and sold by Amazon. Any suggestions?

Chuck

Third party gift cards usually work. I’ll add that.

It didn’t work for me through the link, but when I went to the Amazon website, it was there. When I set my one-click to my Discover card, I got this: Thanks for choosing Discover. The credit has been applied to your Amazon account. Redeem it on qualifying purchases by July 30, 2017.

Does Amazon sell time machines?

T&C says: This promotional offer applies to the purchase of eligible items made with a valid Discover Card. The $10 credit may be redeemed on the purchase of physical products sold and shipped by Amazon.com (look for “sold by Amazon.com” on the product detail page), and excludes gift cards, Kindle eBooks, instant videos, MP3s, and all other digital content and downloads. Products sold by third-party sellers or other Amazon entities do not qualify for this offer, even if “fulfilled by Amazon.com” or “Prime Eligible”.

Not clear whether physical gift cards are included.

Do you have to have a discover card in your payment options before qualifying?

I wasn’t targeted but tried the steps you laid out in your Chase post and it worked perfectly.

Log into the Amazon app

Turn off 1 click settings if you have it enabled (change your card to something other than Chase first)

Keep refreshing the home page until the offer loads. You can also try closing/reopening the app

Click the offer and follow the prompts

Chuck

Thanks, I’ll update
