[Expired] [YMMV] Amazon Prime: Try App Camera Features & Get 6 * $5 Off Select Deals

This deal has expired, for more Amazon offers click here. For a full list of ways to save money on Amazon click here.

The Offer

No direct link, should show up after logging into app

  • Amazon Prime customers can get $5 off selected deals when they use selected camera features on the Amazon app. If you haven’t used the App before, don’t forget you can get $10 as well. On Prime Day, you will receive one $5 coupon to use on select Prime Day deals when you complete one of the following qualifying actions.
    • Use AR View: Tap the camera icon and select “AR View,” then select a product and location for placement to complete AR product display.
    • Use Barcode Scanner: Tap the camera icon and select “barcode scanner,” then scan a barcode corresponding to a product available on amazon.com to complete matched product display. If the product is not available on amazon.com, you must scan another barcode of a product available on amazon.com to complete this qualifying action.
    • Use Camera Product Search: Tap the camera icon and select “product search,” then scan a product corresponding to a product available on Amazon.com to complete matched product display. If the product is not available on amazon.com, you must scan another product that is available on amazon.com to complete this qualifying action.
    • Use Package X-Ray: Tap the camera icon and select “package x-ray,” then scan an Amazon package label to complete display of package contents. Note that you need a delivered Amazon package to complete this action.

The Fine Print

  • The eligible deals change every 6 hours starting at 12pm on 7/16 PDT.
  • You can earn up to six $5 coupons by 11:59pm on 7/17 PDT.

Our Verdict

It’s hard to know if this is worth doing as we don’t know what the eligible deals will be, if it was sitewide then it would be a different story. I’m guessing the deals are going to be junk, but doing it just in case they are good. Looks like there is only four actions you can currently complete, so I don’t see how you can earn six coupons. I guess they will add more actions at a later date? If you get the error “Redeemed Failed. Failed to apply coupon: Can’t apply coupon to your account. (CC02)” that’s because you’re trying to redeem your coupon and that can only be done on Prime day itself (again on selected deals only).

I was excited about this deal (free $30, right?).. but frankly I don’t understand it.. didn’t see it.. when I opened the camera inside the Amazon app today.. and don’t understand what deals it would even apply to :/

PSA:

From the TOS, looks like you allow Amazon to access your Camera’s photos. Talk about building an asset/household goods database and running/processing it through AI learning. Amazon can keep the $30.

Um, it’s impossible for an app to have any camera-based functions without requiring that permission. It’s not for spying on you and stealing previous photos you’ve taken. This is what they’re using it for:

” – Use AR View: Tap the camera icon and select “AR View,” then select a product and location for placement to complete AR product display.
– Use Barcode Scanner: Tap the camera icon and select “barcode scanner,” then scan a barcode corresponding to a product available on amazon.com to complete matched product display. If the product is not available on amazon.com, you must scan another barcode of a product available on amazon.com to complete this qualifying action.
– Use Camera Product Search: Tap the camera icon and select “product search,” then scan a product corresponding to a product available on Amazon.com to complete matched product display. If the product is not available on amazon.com, you must scan another product that is available on amazon.com to complete this qualifying action.
– Use Package X-Ray: Tap the camera icon and select “package x-ray,” then scan an Amazon package label to complete display of package contents. Note that you need a delivered Amazon package to complete this action. “

Exactly. It’s not worth $30 to further share the contents of my home, my life, my family vacations, business trips, my personal and business receipts, etc. I also limit what pictures and what I post or re-share from time to time on Facebook.

I have the Amazon Dash wand if I want to scan Barcode’s at home or in store with my phones hotspot.

While the AR View seems kinda of neat, I think I would only use it on my tablet rather than my phone as I don’t really have a gallery on my tablet.

They use the camera to do the scanning. If it bothers you, then do the actions that get you the credits and then revoke the permissions. Easypeasy on Android Oreo.

On my phone I have “smilecode scanner” and Amazon Gift Card, but not AR View, so those might be the other two categories. The “SmileCode” is a QR code with the Amazon smile in the middle that supposedly shows up in ads. I’ve honestly never seen one.

I got $5 credit for a Product Search, but not for a barcode scan, so I’ll try that again later.

I got notified of the offer upon doing a barcode scan, but it failed to load the offer to my account. This could be because I’m a Prime family member but my wife js the primary member.

I don’t see these offers when I log into the app.
