[YMMV] American Express Business Platinum: 50,000 Points Bonus For EXISTING CUSTOMERS

The Offer

No direct link, check your e-mails (subject line is ‘<first name>, earn 50,000 extra points with your Business Platinum Card(R)’

  • American Express is offering existing business platinum cardholders a bonus of up to 50,000 points. Bonus is broken down as follows:
    • 40,000 Membership Rewards points after $5,000 in spend
    • Extra 10,000 points after an additional $5,000 in spend
  • Spend period is July 15th until October 15th

The Fine Print

  • No need to enroll in promo, as long as you received e-mail you are eligible
  • First Tier: Earn 40,000 Membership Rewards points after you use your enrolled Card to spend at least $5,000 (the “First Tier Spend Requirement”) on qualifying purchases* between 07/15/17 through 10/15/17 (the “Offer Period”);
Second Tier: Earn an additional 10,000 Membership Rewards points after you use your enrolled Card to spend at least an additional $5,000 (the “Second Tier Spend Requirement”) on qualifying purchases* during the Offer Period.

Our Verdict

It’s extremely rare to see spending bonuses for existing customers this high, this is the sort of bonus you’d expect for new cardholders. What’s even more interesting is that it doesn’t seem to be only targeted for people with their AF becoming due during the offer period either. First bonus is an extra 8x membership rewards per $1 spent which is incredibly good and the next 10,000 bonus is an extra 2x per dollar spent (works out to be 9x or 3x on all purchases) so still great just not as great as the first tier. I’ve been saying that American Express has been becoming increasingly desperate and generous with their promotions in an aim to keep cardholders happy and sign up new accounts and this is just an extension of this, enjoy it while it lasts.

Hat tip to all the readers who sent this is, legitimately there is too many to name but it really means the world to me that readers think of me and this site when they receive a good deal.

I just saw in my offers an upgrade to my Gold Business Card. It says this, “Offer is available for first-time upgrades to the new Business Platinum Card only and for one Card account only. Additional Card Members are not eligible. Offer limited to 50,000 Membership Rewards additional points per Card account. Offer may not be combined with any other promotional offers. Card account must be in good standing to earn bonus points associated with this offer.” Earn 50,000 Membership Rewards® points after you spend $10,000 in purchases on the Business Platinum Card in the first 5 months from the date your account is upgraded.†”

Did anyone else receive this?

This just came in on my USPS Informed Delivery digest, and I’m 99% sure it’s referring to this bonus:

So maybe the reason they neglected to send me an email about it was because they wanted to make me feel special by sending a physical copy instead? 😉

Note: As other people have also discovered, any mention of this offer has completely disappeared from online accounts / the Amex Offers section, but based on receipt of this mailer, the offer should still be attached even if you can’t see it online.

Yup, I just confirmed that the mailer was indeed for this offer. This is how it looks inside:

So yeah. Not huge news, but this shows that you might still be enrolled even if you didn’t receive an email and you can’t see it in your Amex Offers section right now.

Wow, my 40,000 point bonus posted within a day of when my $5k of charges posted. Mostly Kiva loans and Plastiq payments.

I didn’t receive an email for this offer, but when I logged into my American Express account today, I saw this as a Featured Amex Offer. If you didn’t get an email, you should check there to see if you have the offer on your account!

I now see this offer sitting in my Amex Offers section, much like the BGR one that you just posted about in https://www.doctorofcredit.com/ymmv-american-express-business-gold-rewards-50000-points-bonus-existing-customers/.

Note that I am 100% certain that I did NOT receive an email notifying me of this offer. No, it’s not in spam, it didn’t get filtered, deleted, auto-processed by a rule or anything else. Trust me 🙂

The link that the “See Full Terms” button links to is formatted similarly to the BGR one, but is also still inactive as of the time of this post:

Furthermore, I have access to three separate Biz Plats (one of them is SO’s), so I thought that it might be of interest to some people if I shared my DPs regarding my account details and whether they got targeted or not.

First biz plat (opened November 2016 using 150k mailer): Targeted
Second biz plat (SO’s, opened March 2017 using 150k mailer): Not targeted
Third biz plat (upgraded from BGR in May 2017 using 50k upgrade offer): Not targeted

No offer for me. Just more requests to sign up for a business LOC. Signed up for the 100K bonus and have been not been using it much other than for my actual business spend (~$100/mo)

Has anyone gotten offer while they’re still trying to hit minimum spend? Long shot but I’m right there now and would love a double dip.

I called and asked since I don’t recall the email.
They said they didn’t see the offer, but just handed me 19,000 points
