The Offer
There are two separate offers being reported:
- Spend $50 at BJ’s with a registered Amex card and receive a $25 statement credit. Can repeat 3 times.
- Spend $100 at BJ’s with a registered Amex card and receive a $30 statement credit. Can repeat 3 times.
These offers are targeted. Many are seeing them some of their cards and many are not.
The Fine Print
- Valid until 8/15/15
- $50/$100 must be in a single purchase
- In-club only; not valid for online purchases
- Purchasing membership in-club will count to trigger the statement credit (if the $50/$100 threshold is met)

Our Verdict
BJ’s does sell some gift cards online which would make me guess that they sell those and more in-store. That would be an easy way of racking up spend at BJ’s, although it shouldn’t be too hard to rack up some ordinary spend as well since they offer such a wide variety of goods. Possibly this offer can be used for a gas fill-up as well (if your tank holds $50/100), but we don’t know that for sure.
We’ve recently had Amex Offers for Costco and then Sam’s Club, now it’s BJ’s turn. This offer is not quite as good as the free money offered by Sam’s and Costco, but it’s still a great deal.

So you may have already known this, but I just discovered that adding amex offers from iphone app is a good way to enroll in those offers that do not show up on the website.
When the new BJ’s offer kicked off earlier this week, I logged in my amex account from my computer and found that none of of my 4 cards was targeted. Then this morning, when I was using amex app on my iphone to check CC balance, I noticed that under the “amex offers” page, you can click on the “nearby” button and bring up a map, showing all amex offers nearby. And you can move the map around to a new location and relocate the nearby amex offers. In this way, I was able to spot the BJ’s offer and add it to one of my CCs. Actually, I found out that 3 out of 4 of my CCs were eligible. But as soon as I added the offer to the first CC, it disappeared on the map.
Though I still can’t figure out how to add the offer to multiple CCs, this may be a good way to enroll in those “targeted” offers.

The offer you mentioned: “$5 off $25” is not the same Chuck is describing. There’s a restaurant chain called BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse and you also have the warehouse club. Although they share the same name, they are 2 different entities.
