The Fine Print

  • Valid 10/25/15 – 10/31/15 (starts this coming Sunday)
  • Limit 1 per household
  • Update: Seems to be in-store only, not showing online

Our Verdict

Most of these Staples rebate deals on Visa/Mastercard gift cards are in-store only. This particular one does not specify that so let’s hope it works online as well. It will probably be clear on the website come Sunday if it does work.

This particular offer is the as good as they come from Staples:

  • It’s for Visa gift cards, not Mastercard (easier to liquidate)
  • The rebate is a Visa gift card, not a Staple gift card
  • It’s a $20 rebate, not $15

What’s especially interesting is that Staples started carrying $300 Visa gift cards online with an $8.95 fee which can make this offer easier and cheaper. I’m not sure if they have these $300 cards in-store yet.

How to Pay

Typically, these offers are only really worthwhile for someone who has an INK card or Amex SimplyCash. However, with the Discover Apple Pay promo going on, this offer makes sense for anyone with a Discover card as well since Staples accepts Apple Pay. Of course, we don’t know for sure that gift cards will work for the Discover promo, but let’s hope that it does..

The online listing for the rebate specifies purchases made at Staples Stores ONLY. I’m not going to chance trying for an online purchase. https://rebate.staples.com/promocenter/staples/validator

Went to staples. Only $100 gift cards with 5.95 fee each were left. All the $200 ones were cleaned out or taken off.

When a straight forward thing becomes complicated I get a bad feeling and I leave. Hate bait and switch.

Its interesting that they note that it specifies certain sku numbers

“Get a $20 Visa (R) Prepaid Card on a Purchase of $300 or more of Visa Gift Cards (SKUs 763604, 763602, 374172, 763607, 374177, 866291) at Staples Stores ONLY”

This is found on the staples website, where the sku numbers aren’t featured on the ad. I went and bought some earlier today, and the $200 ones they sold me did not have that sku number (it had sku number 76750 instead). A rebate receipt didn’t print out either. I didn’t realize the mistake until i got home. I still submitted a regular mail in rebate, so I hope it’ll go through. These were purchased in Golden, CO.

This offer isn’t in the ad for week of Oct 25 and is not available
Search the ad online through the link and don’t see it
The post says it’s on page 5 , I searched manually through in-store ad and again —
It isn’t there and store manager confirms no such offer .. At least not in my area (Columbus Ohio)

I belive Columbus, OH is the test markets for Staples where no promotions are valid. If you look at any Staples generic coupons issued recently they all are valid everywhere but Columbus.

In this case I guess the rebate would still print… but who knows, maybe not. Only way for you to find out is to buy the gift cards and hope for the best.

Can you do this multiple times if you have multiple addresses you can put on the rebate form?

think so… says 1 per household/address; same credit card could still work, anyone can confirm? TIA

The same credit card will work for multiple rebate submissions, but each one MUST have a COMPLETELY different address (no “fake” Apts or variations on same address), and should be under different names, and under different email addresses for tracking and follow-up.

I tried using separate email address, phone number and mailing address but the same name and it didn’t work. there can be people out there with the same name as me so how do they know that all 3 rebates are the same person?

I can confirm that you can do multiples of this. I typically do 3 sets of two $200 visa GCs. Buy 2 x $200 at one staples, drive to another staples, buy another 2 x $200, etc. Always use the same chase ink plus card. When I submit rebates, I register one set to my address (via staples easy rebate center), one to my gf’s address and name, and one to my parent’s address and name. Have always gotten the rebate cards to each address no problem. Make sure each one has their own staples easy rebate account under their email addresses.

Is this automatic? Or does one have to fill out a rebate form?
