Staples Rebate Cards Now Come with a PIN

Multiple readers report that new Staples Easy Rebate prepaid cards are now issued by Blackhawk and are PIN-enabled. The PIN is the last 4-digits of the card, same as all MetaBank cards.

[Update 5/19/16: Readers note that the PIN is no longer working.]

Previously, these cards were known not to work as a PIN-enabled debit, and the terms also mention that. (Since it is a rebate card, they likely don’t have the same legal obligations regarding PINs as for ordinary Visa gift cards.)

Thanks to Spanky, Randy, and PN for letting us know about this development. It may not have rolled out for all rebate cards yet, but it looks like the newer ones are good.

See All You Need to Know About Staples Easy Rebates for more info on Staples rebates. We’ll add this to the list of liquidation methods there.

Is able to use the newest VISA rebate card from Staples for paying the MO fee at a grocery store while liquidating a stack of Metabank VGCs from the Staples and Best Buy deals. Since I don’t recall having the option to reset the PIN, I just tried the last four digits of the card number and it worked. So maybe it’s possible to buy MO at Walmart (4 swipes max) / other places (no limits on the number of cards, though at higher fee and lower per MO max). And the new site to manage the Staples VISA rebate card is http://www.staplesEASYrebates.com/rebatecard

Just went to WMT to try loading some fresh $20 rebate cards, both from the same rebate offer with exp. date of 12/16.

What’s odd is that one worked, but the other didn’t. Not sure what the issue is.

Not sure this will affect me much, if at all. I’d rather use my visits to WM or RA to load $500, not sure it would be worth loading $20

My newest rebate card is Metabank. Do you know it has PIN number? And how do we know it is PIN enabled or not by looking the card? Thanks

This is so cool. I just got back from a date tonight, but my next date with Kate will be longer, and might end more romantically.
