The Offer

Direct link to offer

  • American Express is sending out targeted e-mails for 60,000 points after $5,000 in spend within the first three months on the Personal Platinum card. Our Verdict

This offer isn’t that interesting if you’ve never had the card before as 60,000 points is currently the standard sign up bonus and you can get 100,000 points. It is interesting if you’ve had the card before and it doesn’t contain the once per lifetime language as that means you can get the sign up bonus again for a card you normally wouldn’t be eligible for. I’d probably apply for this card if I was in that situation, unfortunately most people will not be targeted. As always make sure you read through these things everybody should know about American Express cards before applying or asking basic questions in the comments.

I just got this offer (to upgrade from my Gold rewards card) in email 10/30/2017, no lifetime language. But I’ve received the bonus a few years ago and I currently hold a Mercedes platinum. From the comments on this post so far it sounds pretty unlikely that I would get the bonus – is that right or are there some positive DP’s out there since this was posted in June?

Is there a way to check your initial offer for “lifetime language”? I got the 100k offer in May 2016

$550 for a 60,000 points bonus is really not too great. Unless you are a person who uses the other benefits heavily.

I have a very basic question – where do I check to see the lifetime bonus language for my particular application (I applied and got the AmEx Personal Plat before this post came out).

Thanks.

Usually we check before applying. I’m not sure where you can check after applying. Should be able to chat or call them and ask if the bonus is attached to the account.

Looks like the Uber credit is only usable in the US. I tried to use it abroad and it says can’t apply the $15 credit… 🙁

Received a similar offer for 25,000 membership rewards points on Premier Rewards Gold for $1000 spend under the Offers section when logging into my Blue Cash Everyday account. Had the card many years ago. No lifetime language. No language on offer available to new accounts. Spent $1000. We’ll see after statement closes if I get the bonus. I doubt it, because in my experience usually AmEx posts the bonus before the statement even closes. No real harm if they don’t since I didn’t incur an annual fee and will be able to take advantage of the travel incidental fees credit for an upcoming flight. But further proof that even if AmEx may not post the language in its offer they won’t issue a sign-up bonus.

So many have gotten burned by Amex, we don’t bother with them anymore, took our business from them and gave it to other institutions. Waste of time. Besides, look at the high annual fee on this offer which is not waived. There are better ways to get status.

I applied for this one without the language and they refused to honor the bonus, contacted them multiple time no luck.

You should open a case with CFPB. They will ask AMEX to respond in writing and research it further.

I opened the case and they told me since I already has this card in the past so I’m not qualified for bonus, I sent them the no language page, they said for new customers only…..
