(12/3-12/4) Target: Save 10% On Target Giftcards, Up To $500 In Purchases

The Offer

  • Target will be offering 10% off Target physical, digital, and email gift cards on December 3rd and 4th with a Target Circle coupon. Limit $500 in gift card purchases.

It’s free to join Target Circle. I don’t think the offer is showing yet in Target Circle.

Our Verdict

The offer will likely be available both in Target stores and online. It used to be possible to buy $500 per transaction, but since they changed it over to a Circle offer it’s limited to one use per Target Circle account.

Don’t pay with Target REDcard since it doesn’t earn 5% on Target gift card purchases. Instead, pay with Chase Freedom via Paypal for 5% back or with a Discover via digital wallet for 5% back.

Can you purchase these discounted gift cards with VGCs or MCGCs?

There may be an unstated one per household limit based on last name. The last two times this deal ran, we tried to place orders online for P1, P2 (different last name from P1), and P3 (same last name as P1). All orders were to be shipped to the same address. P1 and P2 orders went through. P3’s order was auto-cancelled both times, although she was subsequently able to place it over the phone with a supervisor and have the discount manually applied.

Also, remember to click through a portal. Sometimes, these purchases track and pay — you never know.

They’ll cancel it if you use the same credit card, even if the account is different.

Alex That’s true, but we used different cards for each order.

RM Didn’t last year require saving the offer to a Circle account? I thought that’s how they’re enforcing limits and avoiding the fiasco several years ago deactivating cards.

Celia That’s correct, but the limit was stated to be $500/person. P1, P2 and P3 each had their own separate accounts because they are all adults who shop separately. Nevertheless, P3 (who placed the order last) consistently got auto-cancelled.

RM That doesn’t seem right if they’re an actual person. If siblings lived together, they’d have the same last name. I know my spouse (different last name) had an issue online last year and they claimed it was because the Target account hadn’t been used so it was “flagged” as a dupe account. It was like the only deal clipped in a year. Whether that was true or not, I don’t know. We were able to use the offer successfully in store.

Celia I guess it’s possible that P3’s account is flagged in some way. They are a young adult who doesn’t shop at Target much — but they are a real person. Maybe we should try in-store. But we tend to buy a bunch of small cards to minimize risk of loss, so standing in line while the cashier rings up 50+ cards might get us dirty looks.

RM I get that. Usually around this time of the year, I realize just how much I have in gift cards after discounted purchases. In store I never go to a cashier and it’s pretty easy doing a bunch at self checkout but I tend to keep mine at 25-50 each, not 10, keeping about 100 at all times in my Target app. It’s all a matter of what we’re comfortable with.

We’ve done a few purchases over the year on my spouse’s account so we’ll see if the same thing happens or if their explanation last year was BS 🙂

Wonder if BofA customized card will treat it as an online shopping category for 5.25%

This should work. Haven’t decided to go this route or the Discover Apple Pay.

Yes, it does count as online shopping. I did it last time.

Vin , it has in the past, for me, when I have made an online purchase of T-Mobile prepaid refill ecards.

Oh wouldn’t it be nice if the CashApp 10% Boost was still around then? 🤞
