Walmart+ just added a new benefit for members to get 10 cents off per gallon of gas at Exxon, Mobil, Walmart, and Murphy gas stations. Previously the discount was only for Walmart/Murphy stations, and only 5 cents. Walmart+ also provides access to member prices at Sam’s Club fuel centers.
Nice how they expanded the partnership with Exxon. A lot of us have Walmart+ free with the AmEx Platinum card. If you use Exxon or Walmart gas this can be a little gas savings. The process of getting the savings through your Walmart+ account within the Walmart app looks like a bit of a pain, but I guess it could be worth it for larger tanks, especially.
An FYI to those of you, like me, who are buying the discounted Walmart gift cards through the AMEX Offer. I had no problem scanning the QR code with the Walmart app at an Exxon station, but the Walmart wallet would NOT access my stored gift card as a form of payment. It would only allow me to pay with a stored credit card. Boo! I assume this is intentional as, I guess, Exxon doesn’t want to accept Walmart gift cards as payment.
Used it today, it was pretty quick and painless to pay. The pending charge is through “Exxon.”
Sams club card now does 5% back on ev charge
I’ve been using the Sam’s Club app for gas for a year and it’s way faster and easier to use than a physical card, and don’t get me started on the horrible Exxon app. If the Walmart app process is anything like that, this is not ‘a bit of a pain’ at all, rather the opposite.
I think the exxon app is just fine, what is your complaint? works every time….except doesn’t perfectly recognize what pump i am at
Any reason that this shouldn’t stack with Upside? Seems like you scan the QR code and then use a card linked to upside? Not sure if they like double dipping

Chuck FYI BofA Customized Cash does not earn category bonus using Walmart Pay at gas station with Online Shopping selected (unlike in-store Walmart Pay). Presumably selecting Gas will earn category bonus since at the pump purchases code as gas. Ugh, I wish Walmart app would allow nicknames for payment cards.
IMO seems like a hassle to save $2-3 twice a month. I have the Platinum card, but Walmart Plus is worthless.
Walmart sells gas for about 10-20c cheaper than other stations in my area. Some murphy stations are 30-40c cheaper.
For 30-40 gallons a month per car, It saves me atleast $10 a month which = walmart+ fee.
Its like getting free walmart plus membership plus.
I have to agree, I am trying to stop using Amazon since I have the plat and that W+ benefit but can find anything good or equal to what is on Amazon. It’s a shame I wish it was not the case because I would drop Amazon if it had at least the same options.
Amex Platinum card members get free Walmart Plus membership. I wonder how many of us have actually signed up for it?

Jj
I didnt mention that point because technically, i am still paying for the membership with platinum annual fee.
Who are you people that fill up with like 20 gallons of gas a month. I live in rural Wyoming, I drive 3 hours to target. I do 100 gallons a month easy and I am positive a significant amount of people do more than that.
Positive change. Exxon/Mobil gas is TOP TIER certified, while Murphy’s (Walmart/Sam’s Club supplier) is not; much better for your car.
That’s just marketing you know?
I remember reading that consumer reports did a study and found that TOP TIER gas had a noticeable impact, likely because of the extra detergents. Is that not the case anymore?
Top tier isn’t marketing, it’s legitimate additives that help. Coming from a tier 1 automotive supplier, we found the gas to help keep oxidation and corrosion to a minimum much better than regular gasoline.
It is marketing. It’s out of touch as well.
While these top tier fuels have additives, the preferred use of the additives in gasoline was for valve cleaning of older port injection designs (fuel gets sprayed onto the back of the valves that let air into the cylinder). This usage is redundant because most engines in 2022 are direct injected, not port injected. Direct injection means that fuel is sprayed directly into the cylinder. The biggest benefit of these additives (valve cleaning with fuel) is no longer possible in a direct injected engine.
Not that it matters as it’s still about marketing again but you are served investing in just a better oil as the oil protects the cylinders from corrosion and wear.

Please provide a counter citation. Manufacturers state that it is okay to not use it for a time, but it is strongly recommended.
Except it’s not. A ten-second Google search would tell you otherwise.
A 10 second google search is why you don’t realize it’s marketing.
How does this work in states where it isn’t self-serve? Can you give the code to the attendant?
Presumably yes, That’s what you do with Safeway fuel discounts (phone number). Bit annoying, though.
as someone looking at moving to Oregon, the idea of this drives me fing crazy.
That seems like a pain to go through the Walmart+ app. I get 4-6¢ off using my loyalty app at Exxon Mobil anyway. An average of an 8 gallon fill up doesn’t seem to make it worth the switch. It doesn’t appear there’s a way to combine them.
If using this, you’ll have to make sure you don’t have a credit card saved to your Walmart account. It looks as if it automatically charges it if it’s there.
