$15 Off $50 on Amazon with Amex Membership Rewards Points [YMMV]

The Offer

  • Use Shop With Points on Amazon with Amex Membership Rewards points to pay for your Amazon purchase and receive a $15 discount when making a purchase of $50. Use promo code: SWP07AXP15.

This offer is working for many. The code won’t work for the purchase of an Amazon gift card, but it should work for any third-party gift card sold on Amazon.

You need to pay just 1¢ with your Membership Rewards Points and the rest of the charge will automatically go on your Amex card, I believe.

You need to enroll the Amex card to pay with points in order to use this offer.

The Fine Print

  • Valid until 7/31/15
  • Offer only applies to products sold by Amazon.com.

Our Verdict

$15 discount on Amazon is really nice. There’s also a similar deal to get $10 off $10 when paying with Discover points that we reported earlier today. Both offers seem to be working for many people. I’m unsure if this Amex MR deal is only for those who never used Pay-With-MR-Points before as the Discover deal has the terms.

I linked my MR account and my wife’s MR account – different MR credit cards, not AU cards. I bought actually merchandise and it refused to work the 2nd time. Tried some of the tricks listed in the other comments, but no dice.

Used the code and it didn’t work. Messaged CS and they said they would credit my account $15. I messed up the order so I had to place another order and message them again. They said they would credit my cc account $15. So now I’m getting $30 off if everything comes through like they say it will.

When I tried, I couldn’t find any way to add a promo code for a third party gift card purchase. That doesn’t appear to be an option. When I added physical items I wanted to buy, it allowed me to add a promo code, but the code didn’t work because the items I selected were sold by another company and fulfilled by Amazon.

Never work for me

I could never apply successfully the promo code during checkout. Always had to spend over 15 minutes on chat and then the marketing team had to get back to me.
This time is no exception. Linked the card, added $50 whole food gift card, paid $1 with points and still didn’t work.
So frustrating.

Do Amex costco or blue cash everyday card work with this deal?

Nope. Needs to be a card that ears MR not straight cashback.

When I add a GC in the cart, it doesn’t give the option to enter promo code.

Its working for other products though.

Do you know which GCs give you option to enter the promo code?

So it didn’t want to let me apply with promo code with only $0.01 applied.

To solve this I selected use all points on the change payment screen. Then added the promo code. Once the code was added I was then able to reduce the pay with points down to $0.01.

(I have a feeling you could use the same method to switch the entire payment method over to a better earnings card but didn’t try.)

I used this method to get the promo code to load to Amazon, then tried to switch payment method to my Discover It. The code was automatically removed. Looks like you have to use the card linked to the membership rewards account in order to use the promotional code.

The T&C say that this is per Amex card btw. So you can do it multiple times

Except that it didn’t work on my second card.
