2019 Hilton Status Match & Challenge (90 Days Match, Status Through March 2021 After Completing Challenge)

Update 5/21/19: The landing page now displays the new 2021 match date.

Update 5/10/19: Match after completing requirement is now through March 31st, 2021 instead of 2020, although LoyaltyLobby notes that Hilton is still in the process of updating the landing page.

The Offer

Direct link to offer

  • Hilton is offering status matches to Gold and Diamond, you will receive the match for 90 days and then you can keep that level of status through March 31st, 2021 by completing the following requirements:
    • Gold: Complete 4 stays in 90 days
    • Diamond: Complete 8 stays in 90 days
  • To receive the status match you need comparable status with another hotel and also proof that you’ve stayed at that hotel within the last 12 months

The Fine Print

  • Acceptable forms of status validation include a screenshot of your current account status or your current and active membership card. Acceptable forms of stay validation include a screenshot of your previous reservations or hotel receipt, redacting any personal information other than your name and membership number. We accept .jpg files only. Please do NOT send us any personal information (including your phone number, address, social security number, date of birth, user name, passwords, or credit card information). Hilton reserves the right to decline any application at any time for any reason. Hilton may require additional validation in its complete discretion.

Our Verdict

Keep in mind that award, cash & points and cash stays all count towards the stay requirements for keeping status. Obviously you’ll want to wait until you have an upcoming stay or stays before requesting the match/challenge.

or get the aspire card, which is worth it 🙂 (at least for the first year/bonus combo 🙂 )

They rejected my Hyatt Explorist because they said it’s not part of their Status Challenge?

Dennis

Do you have “full” Explorist status, or is it from the temporary 90-day Explorist offer or something? Just trying to think why that could be the case.

Any indication of how long this promotion will run for? thanks

Meh, just get the Aspire and be done with it. 150k points, 1 free night, $250×2 airline credit, $250 resort credit, and Diamond status for $450. Going out of your way to do a status challenge seems kind of silly.

About a week ago I got matched to hilton diamond through my IHG Platinum membership for free. So now I can have an access to the exec lounge on my next trip. That’s not silly. It’s AMAZING!

Abey

Nice. So IHG platinum equals Hilton Diamond?

Sean
Sean

Yes. I have the old $49 fee one. I sent them photo of my actual IHG membership card. I was surprised it only took two business days to get upgraded.

Wait, I thought IHG Spire = Hilton Diamond and IHG Platinum = Hilton Gold.

Can you share a screenshot of the email confirming your status match?

Sean
Sean

I already deleted the email though but my Hilton account is now updated. It’s true, I was upgraded with only IHG Platinum to Diamond and did not request it so I I’m expecting only for Gold. Maybe the employee who’s handling my request thinks ihg plat and hilton diamond is both top tier. Lucky me! lol..

Oh, ye of little faith. I confirm, from personal experience, that IHG Diamond can be matched to HIlton Platinum. To qualify for the match, I also provided proof of an IHG stay within the past year.

did you have to show proof of as stay as well? thanks

In the past Hilton has matched our IHG Plat to Hilton Gold.
For the properties we stay at (low/middle brow) it does not make much of a difference in our experience. Maybe 5-10 nights a year.
Hilton Hawaiian Village at 800-900 Golds & Diamonds on site, every night.

I get that lots of folks don’t like annual fees (especially $450) but if you’re in a position to be utilizing diamond status, meaning you’re staying in Hilton hotels semi-frequently, then the Aspire card is a no brainer. Even after the first year you can still extract the full value.

Most of DoC readers have tens of thousands of (if not millions of) points and miles to burn. While you are happy with these Aspire perks, all I can see is you paid 450 USD out of pocket. That is silly to me.

That card is worth way more than $450. It has nothing to do with airline miles whatsoever. 150,000 Hilton points, $500 airline incidentals (eg gift cards), $250 resort credit, 1 free night at any property (read: live like Trump….for a night) AND free priority pass lounge access for a year.

The best card decision I’ve made hands down. Total no brainer.

Do certificate stays count?

Faz
Faz

No

You need to spend at least a dollar to trigger a night stay or else it doesnt show up as night.
Unfortunately I didn’t knew it before and missed my chance, was short of one night. Hilton rep confirmed” no points stay counts toward status match promotion.”

Trumpie
Trumpie

This is not true. I booked 7 out of 8 stays with points, and I still accomplished the challenge.

Does this work with Wyndham diamond?

NO I GOT TURNED DOWN

Any idea the timeframe between submitting the application and approval? Thinking to go for Diamond but may need to squeeze in a few at the very beginning of the period and one around 90d later, so would be great to know if I could book now and register the day before the trip.

I just did a few days ago and it is about 5 days.

Anyone have experience trying to match Caesars Diamond to Hilton Diamond?

Dave

The title (and a bunch of other websites) report the 2021 date and that a Hilton Spokesperson noted that the company is in the process of updating the “2020” on the landing page.

For what it’s worth, Hilton’s HHonors frontline staff still maintain that it is 2020. I put in the request on May 10th, got the status as of today (May 14th), and so would love if Hilton could get some clarity at some point.

No need to get Aspire- get the $95 Ascend. It gives you Gold, which in my experience is just as good as Diamond. Free breakfast everywhere. I have Aspire and the benefits are good if you can use them, but earnings on Ascend are better (6x on gas). Not sure if they waive the fee the first year but the sign up bonus is the same 150k as Aspire.

Jon

Diamond guarantees you a suite upgrade with every reservation plus you get executive lounge access. So depends on whether you value those things

The cards aren’t really comparable as far as the other benefits go either. For an extra $350 the Aspire is the far better card. You get so much more for that money its really not even close

Mark
Mark

Diamond certainly doesn’t guarantee a suite upgrade. Check the T&Cs and let me know who upgrades you every time, cause I’m going there.

Mark
Mark

Also I’m just griping but I’m in a 30-story Hilton and it’s doesn’t have an executive lounge. Stayed downtown Cleveland last weekend and their lounge was closed weekends. Hilton is lucky Marriott sucks worse.

Does this work on stays I reserve for others but on my HHonor account? I personally can’t do 8 stays but may be able to reserve for others. Thanks.

Mark

As long as the reservation is in your name and you put the other person as an additional guest
