(2022) Citi Prestige $250 Travel Credit Can Be Used At Supermarkets and Restaurants

(Update 1/16/23: Multiple reports indicate that the Supermarket/Restaurant addition is no longer working in 2023, meaning it has not been extended again.)

Since May of 2020, Citi has been allowing their Prestige cardholders to use the Citi Prestige $250 travel credit at Supermarkets and Restaurants until the end of 2020. Citi has now announced that this extension of the credit has been extended for the duration of 2022.

The Citi Prestige card is no longer available for new applicants.

William Charles I don’t think this was renewed for 2023. My restaurant purchases from January didn’t trigger the credit on my latest statement, and there is no press release like years past.

This covers everything for sale at Walmart? Visa gift cards, booze, guns?

For what it’s worth Citi has horrendous customer service, which has been keeping me from using any of their products so far. In case you were going to apply to the Premiere.

Useless comment, but this card looks really cool.

Anyone able to PC to a Prestige recently?

While I imagine few people in the community have the Prestige at this point, hopefully this encourages a trend of continuing benefit flexibility rather than returning credit usage to travel-only.

It’s a great card for filling in gaps. Fourth night free is really helpful for small footprint hotel groups.

I certainly agree it has its purposes, I just meant for a community that is drawn to sign-up bonuses, the fact that this card hasn’t had a good one and/or hasn’t been available for a while means the portion of us that have decided not to keep its high AF (especially if they have a CSR or Amex Plat, potentially on a new bonus) is likely large.

I have it because of MLA (and several other cards that’d be out of my price point). Although the 4th night free perk has more than covered the AF everytime I’ve used it. I’m not a high roller by any means but last year I did a 4 night stay at the Grand Del Mar Fairmont, the 4th night free covered down on a $400 night (as booked) and through some extremely fortunate front desk good will ended up getting a room(s) that was rack rated at $2k a night.

It’s interesting that Citi’s nudging people to keep the card rather than trying to push them to cancel. Suggests maybe they’re going for a refresh rather than just leaving the premium card segment.

As for the card, I still like it. Nobody else has 5x on OTAs, plus dining, and 4th night easily pays for the annual fee. A Citi rep told me about someone who holds three Prestige cards because he books six rooms for a four-night family event every year.

long time Prestige holder who finally cancelled – most of the time the 4NF was so marked up if booked via the TYP portal that it made no sense to use. maybe 1 in 5 times did it make sense to book that way. once they took away the full service travel agent bookings its value deteriorated hugely. (and i even had the reduced fee version too)

5x on OTA can sort of be replicated with Amex Plat on pre paid Amex Travel bookings, I would note that Prestige has no travel protections, nor rental car protections, which is crazy for a travel card. I realize its not perfect if one has strange OTA that they favor.

It’s weird that CapOne and other flaky banks are getting into the $500 card biz, and a giant card co. like Citi can’t figure out some way to offer a legit, sustainable product. I mean even USBank has their very good Altitude (which I love, and is a daily driver)

It certainly has its uses, but I cancelled mine a little while ago. I did do a last hurrah on the 4th night free benefit before they forced you to use their travel portal by using it on a 4-night stay that was $2,000 per night (Fogo Island Inn).

I still have the Prestige because of the 5x on dining and the annual fee for me is still at $350. I’ll downgrade I have to pay a higher AF.

They’ve canceled my citigold and increased the price. How do you manage to stay at 350?

I didn’t do anything. Maybe because I have it for 7 years. If they are to increase the annual fee this year, I’ll downgrade/close the card.
