The Fine Print

- Must use Stop&Shop/Giant rewards card in order to get the points (and to redeem them as well).
Gas Points Details
Basic Details: Every 100 points gets you 10¢ off per gallon at Shell, up to 35 gallons. If you have 1000 points, you’ll get $1 off. If you have 2200 points, you’ll get $2.20 off per gallon.
- Max discount in some areas is $2.20. In other areas, there is no max.
- You have 30 days to use the points. The day of purchase is Day #1.
- Points can only be used at partner Shell stations. You can redeem the points in a completely different area from where you got the points, but only if that Shell station is a partner. Check out the gas locator for Stop & Shop and for Giant for specific listings of which Shell stations are included.

- Points usually are available immediately, but I’ve had on occasion where it took a day until they showed up and were usable.
Since gas prices currently hover around $2 per gallon, your gas will hopefully be free. Pro tip: Use a Shell gift card and you’ll usually get the cash price; it’s especially worthwhile to get the lower cash price when using fuel points.
Our Verdict
2x is the best offer I’ve seen for Visa gift cards, they sometimes offer 5x for merchant gift cards but I think the Visa cards are actually the better deal as they are easier/less expensive to liquidate. Just keep in mind points expire after 30 days and some people have had issues when gas prices are below $2.20.

Q: I redeemed gas at a Shell location and had enough points for free gas, but the pump did not give me free gas. I had enough points, why didn’t I get free gas?
A: This technical limitation has been discovered at Shell Stations. Shell station’s pumps are unable to roll back to $0.00. The pumps will roll back to lowest price possible depending on the station’s equipment. Shell is diligently working on a fix for this situation. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

So even if you have 2000 points and the price of gas is below $2 per gallon, you have to pay something. FYI, I paid $0.109 per gallon, which isn’t bad but not free.
Points do not expire after 30 days in SE PA Giants; they are good until the end of the month following the month they were bought in.
