Avoiding Fees
Monthly Fees
There are three accounts that qualify for this bonus: Prime Access, Preferred Access and Access checking
- Prime Access: $2500 checking minimum AND $50k aggregate [consumer deposits, loans (excludes first mortgages; lines of credit are measured as the amount outstanding and not the full line of credit) and/or wealth management accounts). Otherwise a $25 monthly fee is charged.
- Preferred Access: $1500 checking min and $25k aggregate (same as above). Otherwise a $20 monthly fee is charged.
- Access: $250 DD/month and 1 debit purchase/month. Otherwise a $15 monthly fee is charged.
Early Account Termination Fee
I wasn’t able to find a fee schedule, so unsure if there is an early account termination fee.
Our Verdict
Looks like an easy bonus to meet the requirements for with a $2,500 minimum balance, although you do need to maintain that for 180 days. Just need to know if it’s a hard or soft pull to open. If anybody goes for this bonus then please share your experiences in the comments below.

Applied this morning and received Denial in a couple of hours.
Reasons – Chex (LOL/24)
Anyone have any luck with OOS recently?
Chex pulled. Denied due to chex after pending review. In NYC.
Only have 2 previous queries this year, with chex score mid 600. Not an active player this year but still got denied somehow lol.
1.Up to $300 Consumer Checking Offer: Offer available when you open a new Access Checking, Preferred Access Checking or Prime Access Checking account. You must enter promotion code “GSB300” if opening online or mention the promotion to a banker when opening at any GSB branch. Get $100 when minimum Requirements to avoid Monthly Service Fee must be continually met for the account; account must remain open for 180 days to receive the $100 statement credit. Get $100 for making a direct deposit within 30 days of opening your account. Eligible direct deposits are electronic automated clearing house (ACH) deposits. Examples of eligible direct deposits include, but are not limited to: payroll, Social Security, pension and government benefits. Deposits made through a teller, ATM, or the GSB mobile app are ineligible direct deposits. Get $100 when you make 5 debit card purchases in each of the first three months.
Wise with “payroll” worked for the direct deposit requirements. Scheduling the transfers and setting up auto-reload for the debit card purchase made it easier to stick with 6 mo. My timeline:
9/26/24: Opened
Mid-Oct: 1st statement period ended (notable because it was strange; I’d had an account before that was opened around that date, and presumably started statements there, which was the best explanation I could think of. They did not charge a fee for the 1st cycle and it didn’t count against the bonus requirements)
End of Oct/Nov/Dec/Jan/Feb/Mar: $250+ Wise transfer & auto reload
3/26/25: $200 “Promotion Reward” posted
I’ll be converting to a Simple Checking account to keep the account around a bit before closing.
This is still around, but at about half: $200 or 40,000 points (which they claim is worth $200) depending on the promo code, for about the same requirements. Access Checking is the only one (maybe) worth doing.

Approved in MA via email the day after applying. All their branches are in CT so I guess that makes me OOS, or at least OOF. Chex inquiries were 4/1 (none the past few days), 4/3, 6/6, 10/12, 19/24, 30 total, and my Chex score as delivered that day was 572.
No CC funding, but they did have debit card funding up to $1000. Tried a CC for kicks (FNBO Evergreen) but it “couldn’t connect.”
There’s a $10 6-month early account closure fee also
I opened my account on June 19, but my first DD will be in July. Will this be a problem?
thanks
Got the bonus
Got denied due to Chex after about 8 hours in review or so. Opened 1 account in the past 6 months and around 9-10 in the past 12 months (didn’t open really any past 12 months ago). Also, didn’t see anywhere on the application form to enter the promotional code on the computer so not sure when you would enter the code.
Also got a soft inquiry on my TeleCheck report (for those keeping tracking) after getting a copy of that.
