Amazon has launched a new program called ‘Product Sampling‘ (our affiliate link). The program is free of charge and the samples you receive will be based on your order and browsing history, Amazon calls it “product recommendations, but real”. It doesn’t look like there is any way to opt in to the program and it seems like it’s mostly a pilot program for now. Previously Amazon has toyed with similar ideas, such as offering sample boxes, these are not free but users do receive a credit for the price they paid to use on reordering items in the box.

There is also a section below wrt marketing emails. Did the folks who receive the sample boxes select particular categories for Promotional Emails?
Sample boxes are not available to ship to Hawaii. I’m sure these ones won’t either.
My mother gets these. Basically, a little box with a sample (like a box that has marketing showing what product is inside and is Amazon Sample branded) will randomly show up. She said she just randomly gets them in the mail sometimes.
Opt-in/out: https://www.amazon.com/samples/preferences
When I went there, I was already opted-in by default. Note that “You must also be opted into receiving “Marketing information by post” within the Communication Preferences Center in order to be eligible to receive samples through Amazon’s sampling program.” I was already opted into that too.
Yep, same here. Opted in by default.
I can see someone getting in trouble over their selections – like when Target outed a pregnant teen to her father in 2012 by sending targeted baby product coupons based on her shopping patterns
Ouch… I had not heard of this!! I’ll definitely warn my patients about this issue… John 3:16
how do you know when you get a sample offer? email?
Not entirely sure, think it might just show up in an order (not sure if they will just send something out when you haven’t made an order)
