Amazon Prime Games 20% Discount To End, Replaced With $10 Credit On Select Titles

Amazon prime members currently get 20% off when pre-ordering games. Amazon has announced that on August 27th that program is ending (our affiliate link) and you’ll instead receive a $10 credit when you pre-order select titles. The $10 credit is off a future purchase and will post within 35 days, it also must be used within 60 days of posting. In addition Twitch prime members will start seeing ads starting in October or after your next renewal. Most games cost over $50, so this new program is much worse especially when you take into account not all titles will get the $10 credit and it’s much more restrictive than a straight discount. This is in response to Best Buy changing the Gamers Club Unlocked program.

Such a shame; I hope Target jumps in and gobbles up some customers with a replacement for Best Buy Gamer’s Club Unlocked. I still have my membership through 2020 and it is by far the best deal in gaming, not to mention when they offer a $10 certificate for some pre-orders like Super Mario Odyssey; the game basically came out to $38 at launch not to mention the rewards points. You even get 20% off sale prices! Target has been really aggressive with their coupons, and I think they would be wise to offer a competitive program.

What happens to existing pre-orders that will be shipped after 8/27?

Amazon’s email says all purchases before the 28th of August will get the 20% discount. I will say that this perk is the reason I kept Prime, along with the extra 2% on the Chase card. Unless something major happens, I will cancel my membership close to the renewal date. Under the old $99 scheme, about 8 games paid for the subscription. I bought 2 so far, and I need to look ahead to see about any others. Though Prime day this year actually got me enough benefit to make Prime worth it this year.
Maybe I just get a monthly Prime membership if the Twitch games or Prime day deals are any good. Amazon really helped me sever the membership though.

Everything’s going downhill. I guess this specific perk was way too good to be sustainable.

Lol I am sure it was sustainable but why keep it around when the competition is dead.
