Our Verdict
Looks like an easy win as Amazon sells tons of ordinary items via Subscribe & Save. You’ll get the S&S discount, plus this $5 promotional credit when using Mastercard and applying the promo code. You an even use your gift card balance, so long as a portion of the purchase is paid with a Mastercard.
Update: Promo code does not seem to be working for many people, myself included. Not sure if it’s targeted or what.

Worked for me. Gotta be super careful because the terms say it has to be a “Ships from and sold by Amazon.com” item, whereas most things are sold by a 3rd party but shipped by Amazon.
if you do not have master Card , then user PayPal Virtual Card ,which is Mastercard and it work for me on my amazon purchase as i do not carry any physical mastercard

This worked on a Safeway gift card, which is NOT subscribe and save…got a $50 GC for $45.

This worked for me in an account that is not prime. Mastercard was already on account being used on subscribe & save items. I deleted an item from subscriptions then added it again and code / discount was applied to item – I use gift card balance for all subscribe and save purchases – discount was applied. Thanks DOC!
