Our Verdict

Some nice deals here, the Uber, Apple, and Grubhub will be the most widely interesting. It might be possible to stack these with Shop With Points deals as well.

  • It looks like those promotional credit can only be apply to Amazon brand product sold by Amazon itself? I was trying to use the credit on like a fleshlight from prime shipped by Amazon but the credits didn’t apply.

  • Did both of the Apple gift card deals, only see one $15 credit confirmed via email, the digital GC credit. The physical gift card arrived today, but no confirmation email yet. Anyone else experiencing this? Maybe need to wait a day or two after delivery.

ALSO: it looks like all the credits stack, so can be used for one purchase if needed. As long as the item qualifies under the terms of the promo.

  • I bought three different gift cards yesterday in the deals. I received emails this morning with all three promotional credits. They will expire January 23, 2023.

  • This has been a dumpster fire implementation by Amazon. I was up late night and the Uber didn’t work. When I tried in the evening, it’s gone.

    Amazon can pound sand

  • Uber was working earlier for me but didnt complete transaction… got on my laptop a few hours later and now seems gone

    • Yes, still had this problem today: with both codes I was told the promotion couldn’t be applied to my order, despite having only the $100 digital or physical gift card in my cart each instance. I tried several times with no luck in either case. So I took screenshots of the product pages showing the promotion details as well as my attempts to use them at checkout; I’ll wait to see if they go through anyway and contact customer service if they don’t.

  • Note that Regal is offering a $15 concessions gift card per $50 on their site this weekend. So if you’re thinking about buying Regal here, consider whether you’d rather have the $10 Amazon credit or $15 for concessions (not tickets!) at Regal. Obviously, if you buy snacks when you go to Regal, the second option might be more appealing.

  • Are you notified of the credit during/after purchase?
I bought Panera, yet saw nothing when entering the code.

    • there was a box with a reference to it on the right hand side below the total amount. they have also updated the page to note that you will receieve an email regarding the credit within three days

  • Anyone having an issues redeeming their gift cards? I bought a Giving Good Feeding America card and went to redeem and an error says “This redeem.giftcards.com page can’t be found”. Edited Now it’s working.

  • Do these credits expire? I know in the past I got in on one of the Amazon gift card deals for apple and the promo egift code expired 3 months later and I wasn’t aware till after expiration.

    • Amazon promo credits have always had expiration dates AFAIK. They will state the expiration in the email confirmation of the promo credits.

The promo credits almost always also limit redemption to items sold and shipped by Amazon.

  • for the deals which give amazon credit : “Promo Credit is valid through and expires on JANUARY 23, 2023, 11:59 PM (PT).”

  • A general comment on gift cards: while it is wise to purchase gift cards on discount for future use, the value proposition is less than in past years. With higher interest rates on savings/TBills/money market accounts, if you get a 5% discount on a gift card and you don’t spend it in one year, you are basically breaking even. If you hold the card longer than two years, you may be losing money.

I bring this up because I have gift cards from years ago that I have not liquidated yet, and even though I bought at a 10% discount during a low interest rate environment, I will probably at best break even. So the point I’m making is that when buying these discounted gift cards, there should be an expectation of using them soon, ideally in 6 months. Also, the discount should be sizable, I would say at least 10%-15% off face value. Now there is a cost to speculative buying, which did not exist in years past.

This comment also applies to those Visa/MC gift card deals, as your funds are tied up without the ability to earn interest. Only a large discount off face value, or a good cashback/promo situation, would make sense. An “all in” discount of 15% (promo, portal, credit card rewards, coupon code, etc) would be the hurdle rate, in my view.

  • Looks like Uber promo sold out/not available.

These GC promos are somewhat confusing, but I noticed after using the code that the promo credit notation shows up in small print right under the “Order Total” on the check out page

  • You have to click on “Black Friday Deals” on the Amazon home page, then check “gift cards” in the left-hand column. Page will populate with deals currently available. No Uber, Gap, alas.

  • bought 3 Grubhub and 1 Uber. On phone with Amazon. I was told the credit will apply in 2-3 business days in my amazon wallet. If it doesn’t credit by next Wed, I will give them a call back. Poorly executed Amazon offer. Expect they will get thousands of calls about this that they could have easily avoided by making the offer more clear.

    • I got 1 promo credit for Uber and 1 for Grubhub. I have a feeling these were 1 use only so I might have trouble getting the 2 extra $11 promo credits for the other 2 Grubhub GCs. However, I feel they should honor it because the website was continuing to show the offer in the lower right side of screen for the other orders and nowhere on the Grubhub GC page did it say 1 use per customer.

I did find something after the fact that via a link to the promotional offers which said 1 per account. They really hid that so I will probably complain as it was quite deceiving.

      • It was a hassle but Amazon agreed to give an extra wallet credit for $22 for the missing promotional credits since it wasn’t clear that it was 1 offer code per account.

  • FOOD works, which is for a physical gift card. The digital gift cards don’t appear to be working. Can clearly see under the item when I check out that I will get $10.50 in Amazon credit

  • I like this web site the way it is, so this isn’t a criticism. But out of curiosity, how did announcements of good deals become such a significant part of this web site focused on credit cards and bank accounts?

Shopping discounts seem like a distinct topic, except in the rare cases that a deal can be done at such a large scale that reselling for point accumulation is worthwhile.

    • Originally this site was focused on credit scoring models. Then credit cards started offering free credit scores, so we started covering those. Then we started covering sign up bonuses. Then cards started offering store specific discounts and deals, then we started covering deals that would stack with those card offers.

There is probably a lot more shopping discounts this time of year, but honestly there isn’t that much to cover about cards and bank accounts these days and we don’t miss that. If people don’t enjoy all of the content they can just use the rss feeds for the credit card or bank account categories and avoid it entirely.

  • Re Wondery+ – wondery.com has a Black Friday deal with 1 yr subscription or gift subscription for 25.99 which is normally 34.99. Note Wondery is owned by Amazon so if you have Audible you probably have most if not all Wondery podcasts and that includes in the Audible Black Friday deal as far as I can tell (I did check some podcasts I listen to but ymmv).

  • On a digital Apple Gift Card purchase: did *not* get a “Promo Code Not Valid notification, but also received no indiciation that $15 gift would be received. Anyone else see a $15 Amazon gift card added to their card when adding the promo code?

    • Same story here on Uber E-GC. First time enter on my iPad, no warning, no promotion message either. Tried to confirm so reenter the code. Now got ineligible warning message. Too hassle.

      • Same thing happened to me on iPad. So I went and did a do over — the first time I entered the code I didn’t see anything…then did a second time and it said ineligible…however in small print on right side of my screen it showed it was applied. Now I’ll wait to hopefully receive the credit. Try doing this with a different gift card deal and you may see it was applied. Confusing at best.

      • Update to the update: it was a different $15 promo gift card. Still no indication I’ve received the $15 promo gift card for the Apple Gift Card purchases

    • The first time I entered APPLEDIGITAL I got no response- nothing to tell me if it applied or not. So I te-entered it and got the message that the coupon couldn’t be applied . I cancelled the order, went back to the gift card description and clicked around to get the promo details. There I saw the text, in green, that the code had been applied – I can’t recall the exact wording, but went back to the checkout and placed the order. I’ll report back whether I get the credit.

I also did the physical Apple gift card deal so we’ll see if I get both credits.

  • Giving Good Feeding America: Buy $50 in gift cards and get $10.50 credit with promo code GIVING22

    Promo code not valid

  • Amazon is not like it used to be. I received the email says Black Friday deals are live and click on that and found this deal but code not working. Why to fool customer.

Furthermore, tried to contact their cs ( of course overseas emp) they didn’t have any ideas about the deal

  • It seems I can use my amazon gift card to pay for the gc.
great savings. got the amazon gc 10% off from grocery with wells fargo card.

  • just fyi, the credit won’t be refunded if you return something. Make sure you use the credit to purchase you don’t plan to return

    • is this really true? every amazon return you have the option to refund to amazon credit, if you select that, i have never seen a case where amazon didn’t refund the full amount, regardless what the original payment source was.
