American Express Adds SoulCycle Benefits For Platinum & Centurion Cardholders

American Express now offers SoulCycle benefits on their Platinum & Centurion cards. For those not familiar with SoulCycle they offer 45 minute indoor cycling classes. It’s basically a new age spin class with nice lighting and music. The new benefits are as follows:

  • When you purchase 20 classes online, you’ll receive an additional 3 classes
  • Ability to purchase a series of 20 SuperSoul classes (normally the requirement is 50)
  • Free standard shipping on all soulcycle.com orders
  • Early access to SOUL’s warehouse sales
  • You get 10 first time free passes for friends and family

Normally 20 classes will cost you $600 or $30 per pass, so the additional three classes is actually worth $90. It’s always nice to see new benefits added to cards, personally I’d prefer American Express to focus on their core business but I suspect they are actually earning money from this partnership rather than having to pay to offer these benefits. $30 a class (more if you buy less passes) seems expensive to me, but anything that keeps you active and healthy is a good thing in my book.

This probably won’t close the gap in market share that they’ve lost to the CSR…

SC is a joke. anyone whos serious about fitness knows SC was founded by idiots. their cult like nature is also ridic. SMH at the celebrities who endorse this type of fake ass fitness. classes are led by dancers. not fitness experts. matter of fact, nobody is a fitness expert. you will injure your body by doing what they ask. give me a break. this is NOT a real benefit. buyer beware.

You said idiots, I say marketing geniuses.

Sure its a cult, sure Peleton even with the monthly subscription is cheaper in 6 months of steady classes, but people love being yelled at in candlelight. Maybe it is not up to your “real” fitness standards but they are killing it at the bank so they could care less.

Will you should’ve let the slur through.
It’s a representation of Rich’s character.

And it probably made him feel better about himself. And in these tumultuous times anything to make someone feel better about themselves is important

Remember you have to buy or rent shoes so the cost is higher than just the actually per cost class.

I tried it a few times and I didn’t get it. But I guess it’s something if you’re into it…

They can be any compatible shoe, so mine from road biking worked. Those were a few hundred dollars but can no doubt be gotten cheaper.

They’re $3/session to rent.

I mean it’s like any group exercise fad over the past couple decades. It’s made out to be a “cool” thing and then you shell out to participate in a class so you can socialize with like-minded cool people and maybe encourage friends to join. You shell out not just for the class but also for semi-specialized gear and clothing that you can tote around and also display when you aren’t participating. Sometimes this gear becomes popular enough that it spills over to the mainstream- (yoga pants, most notably).

None of these programs are especially more effective at accomplishing whatever they claim to achieve than cheaper forms of exercise, and they’ll eventually fade in popularity as some new cool fad comes along to supplant it.
